I have a 1992 135 Mercury BlackMax that usually runs about 135 degrees when cruising but if not planed out it warms up to about 175 degrees. I replaced the impeller and housing about 8 months ago and the cruising temp dropped from about 150 degrees to 135 but the low speed temp is still the same.

Is it normal for the engine to get warmer at low speed?

Is 170 degrees too hot to operate the engine at?
