I'm sure this has been asked before , but was is the purpose of a flippin switc on a reel ?

I've been a trucker for yrs so haven't been able to fish as much as i'd like , but i'm trying to learn. My son goes with me , so that is cool,he is trying to learn also, we both want to become better fisherman.

It allows u to engage the reel by simply letting go of the thumb bar when flippin matted grass or trees. When ur flippin, u sometimes get bit on the fall. The split second reaction time it gives u is an awesome feature and I own two quantum accurist PT reels with the flippin switch and LOVE them!! Makes flippin a whole lot easier in my opinion.

SOme, Like me flip mostly with the right hand and feed line with the left. If I strip off line I have to engage the thumb bar to free spool line off. Now you have to change hands and engage he the reel. Thats a split second that a fish may hit since your usually flippin shallow. With the flippin switch on just release the thumb bar and you are ready to stickem.
I'm getting better at flippin with the left hand so I don't have to cahnge hands. Takes practice.
