I was at Amistad this weekend and when i would get her (1996 Yam. Vmax 150hp) wide open (5300 rpm) she would shut down totaly. Does anyone know what would cause this?

First thing you want to always check on a Yamy is the manual fuel pump diaphrams.

Yup. Exactly what was wrong with mine with similar symptoms. 5,200+ rpms and she'd dog out on me.

Stress less, relax more. Go fishing.

Best for you to take to shop and have them installed. Should`nt cost over $100.00. Go ahead with the other maintenece but the diaphrams need to be done right. You ca`nt replace the manual Yamy fuel pumps with an electric without a hole lot more work than replacing the diaphrams. Electric pumps go out pretty often too.
