Heres an example of what you can grow in a acre pond with no aeration or supplemental feeding, with a huge bluegill forage base.

TxJole, if your hybrids floated "about a month after stocking", something was bad wrong.
PM me, perhaps I can help.

I consulted with a TP&W biologist, who gave my a # for a biologist @ A&M who works on stocking assessments. My oxygen level was too low for sandies or hybrids. Do to the soil, ph and other factors I was advised its a perfect habitat for LMB and Crappie. I'd love to talk to you about it, to get a fish to grow like that you have to have a true touch on pond managment.

Yes the wind is pitiful...everyday it is windy. I am tired of the wind, and it is drying out everything...we should get rain Saturday.

TxJole, check out these links for starters, and we can discuss by PM.

I have been in this program for some 5 years now and consistsantly produce 3-5# HSB, considering them as a put and take species.
They are a blast on a fly rod!

Your biologist is correct on water quality but many will disagree with his recommendation to stock crappie wisth LMB.
Crappie spawn before LMB and will devastate the LMB spawn, and result in overpopulated and stunted crappie.
Copper Nose Bluegill is the recommended forage for LMB, and also tilapia for forage and alge control.

It all depends on the goals for your pond.
