We are rescheduling the tournament for April 18th due to the high wind. I'll post a reminder two weeks before the tournament.
Where: Lake Ray Roberts Location: Isle De Bois State Park Launch Time: Safe Light Weigh In: 12:30 pm
Sorry, we will not be having a fish fry following weigh in because of the burn ban. I spoke with the Parks Department and only propane enclosed grills may be used. Instead, we will all go to the Dam Store have a burger and hang out after weigh in. Hopefully we will get some rain and the ban will be lifted by the next tournament. We look forward to seeing you all there. If there is inclement weather I will post by 10:00 pm Friday before tournaments about cancelling or postponing a tournament. Ray Roberts is a great spring time fishery and the females should really be getting big by this weekend with the warm weather this week. It has the making of good heavy weights. Bring the family and have some fun this weekend! See you all there!
Below are the rules and schedule for the '09 year.
TXSBHA 09 Tournament Schedule
March 7th Ray Roberts - Isle De Boise State Park
May 30th Lake Whitney
July 11th Lake Cooper
September 12th Lake Lewisville
November 7th - Lake Texoma - Big Fish Fun Tournament for Sand Bass/Hybrid/Striper $10 entry 100% payout No Aggregate
December 12th - Fairfield Red Fish Fun Event Tentative on Lake Level
Updated and Revised Rules for '09
Official TXSBHA Tournament Rules
The following rules apply to all and any participants of any sandbass tournament(s) that are sponsored, operated, or directed by the Texas Sandbass and Hybrid Association, hereafter referred to as TXSBHA. By entering the tournament, participants release without exception TXSBHA, its officers, sponsors, and affiliates, from liability resulting from loss, theft, injury, or death.
Contestants are required to complete and sign a release of liability form before paying entry fees.
1. The below stated rules apply to all of the participants of any TXSBHA sandbass tournament (s). Violation of any of these rules will warrant appropriate disciplinary action by the tournament director (s). Any protest (s) must be received in writing within fifteen minutes of the final weigh-in. The tournament director (s) decisions will be final in all matters pertaining to the tournament results.
2. All applicable state, federal, local-park, fishing, boating, and general laws must be obeyed.
3. Tournament entry fees are $40.00 per team unless otherwise stated by TXSBHA prior to tournament registration. Teams are to be made up of anyone legally fishing from a single boat. See number 11 for scoring specifications. Pay out is 70% for sandbass aggregate, payed out at 50/15/5% to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places respectively. Payout for big fish is 10%. If there are more than three children ages 12 and under that are participating with a paid team. They may enter (free of charge)a big fish (sandbass, hybrid, or striper) and receive a prize that will be determined at each tournament if his or her fish is the heaviest entry. At each tournament 20% will be used for upkeep, prizes, future tournaments, and as seen fit by the directors.
4. Firearms are not allowed in tournament boats during tournament hours or carried during registration or weigh-in.
5. Alcohol and narcotics will not be allowed in the possession of contestants during tournament hours, with the exception of prescription medicine. Alcoholic beverages are permitted fifteen minutes after the check-in deadline (unless prohibited by the host marina or park).
6. Courtesy, safe boating, sportsmanship, and conservation must be displayed at all times by contestants. Failure to do so will result in the disqualification of the violators team.
7. A U.S. Coast Guard approved chest type PFD must be on and fastened anytime the combustion engine is running (on all people in the boat). All boats must meet U.S. Coast Guard standards. All boats must have an emergency kill-switch that must be attached to the driver during operation of the combustion engine.
8. TXSBHA sandbass tournaments contestants are allowed to use any (legal) bait of their choice, including live bait and trolling. All fish must be caught on rod and reel and in a sporting manner during tournament hours and from current tournament waters. Contestants are responsible for insuring that the bait they are using does not violate any federal, state or park laws.
9. Contestants may not use communication devices for the purpose of locating fish or assisting other teams. Hole-sitting by or for entrants is not allowed.
10. Pre-fishing is allowed until 6pm the night before a tournament. Boat stalls, slips, or beaching of boats is allowed on the night before a tournament, however, all boats are subject to but not required to being inspected before release the morning of the tournament. All entrants must check in at the registration/launch site before fishing the tournament.
11. Scoring will be determined by the total weight of 10 sandbass per team. Combining the two cash awards and splitting the total between the tied teams will settle ties for cash prizes. Big fish, may include anyone of the following if found in the tournament lake, sandbass, hybrid-striped bass, or striper. Big fish may be part of the 10 fish aggregate but must be tagged before aggregate weigh-in.
12. No fishing is allowed within 25 yards of another tournament boat without mutual consent. No fishing is allowed within 25 yards of any man made structure of the hosting marina.
13. Entry fees will be accepted in cash only the day of the tournament. The tournament staff is usually there 1 hour before the boat release (safe light).
14. Boats will take-off in an orderly fashion at "safe light," as determined by the tournament director. If entries exceed 50 boats weigh-In will be staggered in flights according to the number of teams competing - intervals usually begin at noon.
15. Penalties: There will be a 1 pound penalty deducted (from the total weight of legal fish) for every fish not meeting the legal size limit (the illegal fish is not counted towards the total weight). Fish will be measured on a "Golden Rule" measuring board with the tail closed. There will be 1 pound deducted from the contestants total weight for every minute the contestant is late for weigh-in. The weigh-in line will closed 15 minutes after the designated check-in time.
17. The TXSBHA and its tournament directors reserve the right to refuse entry to any person for any reason. Inclement weather decisions will be made by the tournament sponsor.
18. Contestants are responsible for knowing and understanding these rules .....

Johnny I would like to come, but I have my boat taken apart. I am having my seats re-covered, replacing trolling motor, and adding a new GPS/sonar. Be hard to fish like this. I will make the Whitney for sure! I fished last year at RC and Joe Pool with yall and had a blast!

The park opens at 6:00am. I will be there at that time to begin check in. We will have a captains meeting about 6:40 and release following.

Too bad I gotta work. Otherwise I would have to bring my 7 year old fishing buddy out there and let him wear Sandjohnny out! Goodness knows I wouldn't contribute anything beyond driving the boat. Have fun guys. Can't wait to hear how it goes. Cheers, Jim
