I recently put in my canoe at 16 bridge and wouldn't recommend it. The river (which is basically just a creek right now) is narrow and extremely shallow - even as you go downstream. Plus, there are several log jams and portaging is not all that easy. With the current conditions of the Frio, it is my opinion that it is best to fish from the bank. Lots of places to fish, and you'll have no problem casting all the way across.
The Bracken ramp (between 16 and 99) is closed due to low water. The Daughtry ramp is open, but it's still big river/lake at that point.

Dang Killer, you sound like Frio old school. Bet you've been fishing that stretch for what, 20, 30 years now?

Fished the Frio Thursday from the bank. Started at the 16 bridge and walked waaaay downriver. Caught many whites and only 1 crappie. Fished with minnows. Saw lots of spawning activity. Didn't see other people having as much success.
I'm guessing they'll keep moving up toward the bridge, but I think your best shot would be to work you way downriver. The coming cold front will probably slow the bite this weekend. Today (before the front) should be awesome fishing.

Fished it on Wed for about an hour. Caught 5 males all 13" I was only about 1/4 mile from the bridge many were swimming up and spawning or trying to the. I was using just a simple white rooster tail.

I went by the Tilden bridge on Saturday. When I got there, there were 26 vehicles in the parking area. I went down by the water, and there were only 2 guys down there (one on each side of the bridge). They each had 5 whites on a stringer and they were using minnows. Apparently, everyone else had gone downriver. I would have liked to have tried it downriver, but my age (74) and health (heart bypass operation) prevents me from putting out that much effort. It's a chore just going from the parking area down to the water. I stopped and chatted with the guy who was fishing right by that rock dam and he said that the sheriff had stopped by and talked to him, and he said the sheriff told him that he stopped that guy who has that property on the southeast side of the bridge from charging people to fish there. That's the guy who was building that dam. He owns a lot there and he was charging people ($15 I believe) to fish over on that side. He said the sheriff said he told that guy that his property didn't go all the way down to the water, and that the city of Tilden owned the property by the water. The sheriff told him that he didn't have the right to charge anyone from fishing there. Anyway, I made about a dozen or so casts with a jig and didn't catch anything, so I left. Those two guys had been there for about 3-4 hours and only had 5 each. So, it seemed obvious that the whites weren't really up that far yet.

Took my BILs to Choke/Frio on Friday as a consolation since our weekend trip to the Pecos got cancelled, at least for now. Kept 38, released probably half that many. Didn't catch any dinks. Hot baits were rattletraps and sinking Rapalas, mostly trolling. Saw 4 gators, one that was easily a 12 footer. P.S. at 5:30-6 p.m., there was only one truck parked at the bridge. Some other pics from the trip...

SeanH, looked like a good day. We also did well on Friday at the Nueces. How far up river were you and did you launch at 99 or Daughtry? I might try Choke over the Nueces just to get into the bigger Whites.

Any updates on tilden? Drove thru on saturday morning and it was raining fairly good upstream got some good rains as well. Figure they might take a few days to there though. Any chance the increase water flow will get them going again?
