I have a 98 mercury 30 hp. It would run fine, and then would die after a while. Cleaned the fuel filter and it was running fine. Pulled it up into shallow water run mode, no tilt on this motor, and it died immediately. I took it to the shop and they did a carb job on it, took it to the lake and ran it in regular and shallow water mode and never had it die. Last weekend my dad took it out, and it was running fine for most the day. It never died, but he was at one location and tried to start it back up and it wouldn't start. Used the trolling motor to get back, tried starting it on the way back and it still wouldn't start. Got it up on the trailer and it started. Any ideas or suggestions? thanks

Sounds like it was flooded. Motors run and idle completly different in the water because of the back pressure on the exhaust. You might want to look at carbs while running to see if it is spitting any fuel out front of carb. Sign of leaking needle&seat. Good Luck
