What do you guys (and gals) use for crappie habitats. Under our dock is a desert on the edge of a 6 foot creek bed. We have been stacking evergreens under the dock, but I wanted something I could drop a jig in and not hang it up so I built this last night and it took all of an hour and about $10. anyone else have anything they can share???

Go over to crappie.com and go down to the section on structure. Tons of good stuff there about building your own condos and hotels. Lots of pics and solid advice from some people who really know crappie
 I don't live for the thump, but I sure do like it.

when the water levels are down during the winter you can make stake beds by simply driving wooden stakes in the mud to make a large patch of structure

drill holes at the bottom of the pvc. that way, they won't try to float so much.

rough up the pvc with sand paper before dropping it in, that will let the algae grow on it faster and attract bait fish

You'll be surprised by how much that thing will want to float. A hole or two at the base of each "branch" will make things a little easier for you. Roughing them up helps a bunch, too.

Say Tx next time make 2 condos out of same material more is not always better.Large crappie will not go into areas with less than 8 in of clearence so I have read. Shade is the key factor to get crappie to inhabit your condos .Also ruffing the pvc does help not much alge grows on slick pvc.Im like you I like pvc it last longer but location location is real important.Your on the right track keep it up.Darrell

I'm doing 3 bamboo 3-4footers tonight. The water under the boathouse is 5 foot right now normally 10 foot. The boathouse is getting dredged in 2 months when they do a bulkhead, so i'm hoping to pull some crappie in before we screw it all up. Also have to build something I can move during the "remodel".

Think you are on the right track. But I agree, more is not always better. More buckets with less PVC would be beneficial for bigger Crappie.

Here are some I built.....
I like the stick condos the best.... easy to build and easy to put out.......      
Crappie fishing... what else is there ??
