Hey everyone, my name is chase and i am a 22 year old college kid that will be on spring break, i am new to this deep sea thing, i went bay fishing when i was like 10 years old but yeah... i am looking to come down by myself to port aransas either the 14th or 15th of march and looking for a 24hour or longer trip, looking for any type of fishing etc, i dont know the first thing about it.... any ideas on charters or who to book with etc?

like i said first time and will be by myself so time really doesn't matter, think a 40-60 hour trip would be to long my first time out?

*edit* obviously looking to go with a random big group and not a private charter

Chase

There are several charter companies in Port "A"

The TFF uses Capt Kelly's Deep Sea Headquarters "Gulf Eagle and Pelican"

And Fisherman's Warf "Scat Cat" for our TFF Tuna trips.

I would not hesitate to highly recommend either one to a friend or first timer.

We also use Captains Quarters Hotel on Cotter St. right next to Whataburger!

Yes they are party boats.. you need to call and get their schedule and make sure they have enough to make a trip the day you want to fish. They do 8 and 12 hour bottom fishing trips the 48 and 56 hour trips are overnight trips for Tuna.If you want a good chance at catching anything you need to go on a 12 hour trip.

They provide fishing gear and bait some boats have snacks drinks and food.. the deck hands will show you everything you need to know. If you tip them each $10 when you get on the boat they will be at your call the rest of the day! laugh

I would highly suggest Dolphin Docks if doing a long trip. We troll all the time when moving spots so there's no telling what you might hook up.

what all is involved in a long trip? do you actually sleep on board or just fish the entire time? i am only 22 so stamina isnt a huge deal, i just think its the most bang for your buck since time is no option and i am by myself

hey chaseUNT we always go with dolphin docks. they pretty much run a 24 hr trip every sat returning on sunday weather permiting. my group had done SEVERAL 24 hr trips with them and we are doing a 36 HR trip last weekend of this month. i am kinda partial to them but i hear that the fishermans warf is also a good boat. all the TFF tuna team guys talk about that boat.
24 hr trip with dolphin docks will give you about 8 to 12 hrs of fishing. you can call them @ 1800-eye-fish or www.dolphindocks.com
whats all involved? get on the boat.....sleep til the boat stops ( generally about 6 hours) then fish your butt off till they head in and then catch you a cpl more hrs of rest.

good luck and let us know how it all turns out!!

There is beds on the boat, we also have a full time cook on-board and he makes the best food.

Just depends on the conditions, here is a little secret, go to a health store and get a bottle of Ginger pills. Its the only thing that will help ya if you do get sick on the water. Its up to you, the 60hrs are the most fun, we caught a blue marlin last year on one.

If you're looking for good action i wouldn't recommend the party boats. Spend the money and go private charter. www.p2outfitters.com I've worked on many boats down in that area and i'd hate to hear about you're first time being a bad time.

If you have never been offshore, 60 hours is pretty gutsy. I used to work in Port A in high school for a private charter. Some people would freak out after 6 hours of not seeing land.

Dude, are you seriously recommending a private overnight charter on a Cabo fly bridge to a solo 22 year-old college student on Spring Break?

ChaseUNT, the party boats are fine, if you have not gone yet. But 60 hrs is a bit gung ho for your first time. Post up if you went and let us know what you thought!
