With our Galveston park gone for the moment we are looking to get away in the week following Easter. We will be camping all week so have access all day long and also the night. WE fish for fun so the smallist piggy purch is just as much fun as the sand trout or redfish. Any thoughts on spots within the park (we have dogs and I am sure they will not be welcome on the pier) that we could enjoy and what is a good local bait.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Get a reservation and get there early enough to get a site on the bay side. You can fish off of the bulkhead and be 20 feet from the camper. There's two sets of concrete "cabanas" on the bay. The water is deeper on the western set of sites. I think I read on here that they have built new restrooms also. Hope you have fun.

Under the lights on the pier with live shrimp is very good for trout at Goose Island State Park

Goose Island State Park nice clean bathrooms on the bayside. We stayed for a week, fished all over the park and below the big bridge on both sides. We plan on going back at the end of March. Dog are not welcome on the pier frown big sign that says that. We caught small trout under the lights using small brim jigs pull across the top, we caught five to one on the smaller tackel.. have fun..

Used to fish there when i was younger. Live shrimp under the lights at night. Cut bait on the bottom for reds and blacks. Shrimp tail speck rigs in various colors for specs. Fished about the middle of the pier round the 1st or 2nd set of lights.

If I fished for money.........I'd be broke.

I never have fished the pier. I either take my kayak or wadefish. Just 150 yards S E of pier starts a long chain of shell reefs with guts in between. One of the best spots I've ever waded. Wear good heavy boots, nothing worse than an oyster shell cut on the foot.
