Thanks for all the posts, guys. I'm going to hit the Frio this weekend, but I've never been to this area. I hear the whites are pretty far upriver, close to Tilden.

I assume y'all are fishing just downstream from Hwy 16 bridge on the bank... Is there any other public river access between the Hwy 16 bridge and Daughtry WMA? I'd like to put the canoe in, but I don't want to paddle 5-6 miles from Daughtry then all the way back.

Thanks

4 miles east of tilden on 72 there's a ramp. Get closed when the water drops much more than it is now.

Well I guess I will try to hit it up tomorrow. Heading to Choke anyways to fish at the Calliham area.

I stopped by the bridge there at Tilden on Wednesday and there were four vehicles there in the parking area.

I walked down to check out the water level and see if anyone had caught any.

Saw one guy with a single fish, and asked him if anyone else was having any luck, and he said the guy he was with had five, and he had just caught the one he had on the stringer.

Looks like they are up there, but just need to hit it right I guess.

Noticed how someone just dumped their trash in the parking lot, and lots of trash around the water's edge, so enjoy it while ya'll can before they block off the whole area, because there are still those who just don't get it!

Thank you, STF. I think I know the place - I just didn't know if it was public. I'll be putting in a canoe, so I feel pretty confident about putting in even if it is low.

South Tex Fish, that boat ramp that you're talking about is the Bracken Ramp. I went by on Hwy 72 a couple of weeks ago and there was a barricade across that road right as you enter off of Hwy 72.

I called the folks at Calliham and, yes, they said the Bracken ramp is closed due to low water... frown

I fished at tilden yesterday. Caught 3 males all were very good sized 11-13" standard white and chartruce roadrunners. The fishing was overall slow we were there for about 2-3 hours. I saw a total 12-15 fish between about 7-8 people. Half were caught right at the bridge and mine were about 400 yards down from the bridge. One guy fishing said the fish were much bigger this week compared to last week.

I read from another board that people were limiting out last saturday before the front. I wish i didnt live so far away from Tilden.

Can someone tell me typically how long the run will last? I want to head out there this coming saturday or sunday.

Thanks

If my calculations are correct it ended about 4:00 p.m. as of yesterday!

Seriously, the weather, and all the other factors that tell the fish it's time, seem to be a little late this year, and then when we get these cold fronts it seems to set things back as the fish get sluggish and get lockjaw.

As long as we get some warm days, and the nights don't get down in the low forties we should have a decent run going on for at least about another three to four weeks and maybe a little longer.

Those fish don't all come up at one time and you will have some stragglers, and plus those fish that went way up have to come back down.

I will be out there this coming week so I'll try to give a report if I do some good.

Alright, I'm thinking about trying out the Frio tomorrow instead of Canyon lake. I have some questions though. First, what the quickest way to get to Tilden from the west side of San Antonio outside of 1604. Looks like 16 is a straight shot. Also, how easy is it to put a canoe it at the bridge there at Tilden...I'm assuming this is where 16 passes over the river? How big is the river there? I plan on paddling downstream. And I'm guessing that other than this bridge, there is no other access beside 99 all the way down towards the lake? Thanks for any help!
