Anyone have any of the current or new combos academy has?? I am still too stubborn with money to pay over 100 for a rod/reel so I usually pick up the combos... They have the new low profile garcia black max bait caster on a 6'6" MH rod for 50.00 right now... 10.00 off!!

My pop in law just got the H20 baitcast combo but doesn't feel as nice as the garcia, could be a mental thing for me... lol

Also, I have a Quantum with lonstar rod combo I got there several years ago that I use alot and haven't had issues with it...

Just curious if anyone has tried these??

Black Max are made in china Aren't they.

I've bought several bait cast combos from there including a Black Max its been awesome, as well as the others. Hey Jon is that deal going on the Black Max this week. Was at Academy today didnt see any.

I just bought on tonight on Perrin B in SA... They were out yesterday in Live Oak.... Was just dropped yesterday, could be why...

i have 2 off name combos from academy. both have seen plenty fish!

and one shakespeare that i got for the wife as a throw away, it has turned into my lucky pole! been pulled into the water twice and floats right back up! and both times brought the fish with it and both were keepers! and it was $12

I bought a flugger Echelon on a all star rod from there and love it think it was on sale for $79

I have 2 Pflueger (red with brake on left side) bait casting setups that I got from them and love them. Paid $89 for one and $79 for another on sale. I have also bought 2 Blax Max combos for I think $49 to $59 each. One was pretty good but the other one doesn't feel right, dosen't cast as far as the other. Have also picked up a couple of Pflueger spinning setups and love them too.

LoL... You made me nervouse GLC so I tied on a catfish weight and made some casts today... I REALLY like the black max... The rod may be a little less firm than I like but we will see... I was whalin away and didn't backlash the 15lb mono I tight on, so I am good to go!!

Didn't mean to make you nervous. For some reason one is better than the other. I took both of them apart and they were the same, one just was tighter than the other. Both work fine for the money though.

Turns out, black max may be my new fave... Landed a 4# fish with ease this AM! Had 15# mono on it with a rattle trap...
