Hey guys I was wondering what was the best way to spool fluorocarbon onto a spinning reel without the line looping too much. I have heard that you should warm the line in hot water , i have also hear you should lay the spool flat when spooling. Does it really matter, the line twists anyway right???
Why do today what you can put off till tomorrow, lets go fishin!!!

The only true way to get rid of the line twist is to let out all the line once you spool it and reel it back in. If you are in the boat do not tie a lure to it just stand on the trolling motor let it all come out and reel it back in. To reduce the line twist lay the spool flat and have a wet warm towel to wind the line through and about every 30 cranks flip the spool over.

I read a long time ago that the correct way to spool mono (should be the same with fluoro) is to put the spool down on the floor with the label up. The other way would put more twist onto your spinnng reel. But I just use 30 lb braid, or mono on my spinning reel. FC coils bad enough even on a baitcaster reel. I liberally use KVD's Line and Lure conditioner on FC and it helps a lot.

I have a reel that no matter how I put line on it will twist, I have to drag it behind the boat a couple times a day.

Shimano provides instructions with their spinning reels on how to spool on line which I follow and do not have a problem.
They say to run a dowel or pencil through the filler spool hole, then run the line through the first guide on the rod and tie to the reels spool. Then with the filler spool being held in a verticle position by the rod through the middle and with the line coming of the bottom of the spool, apply even pressure to the spool and start filling. Since I do this in my house and usually while alone I often put the spool on my bed and lay a small pillow down on each side of the dowel I use (adjusting them so I get even pressure without putting on too much). This works for me and I almost never get twist from just filling the spool. And also do as previously said and never, ever close the bail by reeling. Everytime you close the bail by reeling you are putting at least a 1/2 twist in the line from the rotation of the bail. Close the bail by hand and zero twist is added.

I put mine on with the spool horizontal in a vise with a pencil through it and loop it thru the closet eye to the reel and keep tension on the line by that eye as I reel... Best I have found yet... I have tried all methods previously mentioned too...
I wanna know how to spool braid... Seems like the spool twists itself as if my reel is dragging but its just the line... I have only tried it on a spinning real... I went back to mono...

On a spinning rod I would go braid with a fluoro leader

I mainly use the large spools since i have so many reels to spool. I put the spool in a round tupperware container which is just big enough for the spool to fit in and still move freely. I put a small hole in the side of the tupperware just big enough for the line to pass thru. Then put the line in the middle of a phone book so it puts just the right amout of tension on the line. This is for the bait casting reels. For spinning reels, I put the hole on the end of the tupperware containter and then put the line thru it and then thru the pages of the phone book. this way, it will take the line off of the spool counter clockwise. This has been the best cheapest line spool holder I have ever used, and it cost very little.

This is one of the best ways to take line twist out of any line. However when spooling have the spool facing and coming off the spool the same direction that your reel bail turns.

Take it to Academy. They will spool your line for free on their spooling machine as long as you buy the line.

The instructions above pointing to what Mike Iaconelli says is the best I have used. The silicone on the rag works great for all reels and lines. With spinning gear line twist is just going to happen when spooling. Fliping over the spool laying on the floor as soon as line twist starts minimizes the problem. Line twist will happen no matter which side of the filler spool is up because most filler spools are of a larger diameter than the reel spool so you are atleast doubling the number of line coils on the filler spool on the spinning reel spool. After you done spooling the new line as soon as you get on the water tie on a swivle and a heavy enough weight for the weight line and make some long casts. As you reel in use the silicone wrag again.
