I had a pretty good tournament down there the end of July. 5 fish just under 14 lbs. BB just over 4. It was only the second time I had fished it in about 15 yrs. I was flippin' docks. I was pretty impressed

Back in June I caught several fish on scum frogs in and around the lilly pads north of the bridge. Then when the sun got high I cranked the rip rap on the bridge.

I have only fished lake limestone once. I have some friends that have a place up there and in May I took my boat up there and spent the weekend fishing the lake. I spent most of the first day learning my way around the lake. The second day, I caught numerous white bass, and a nice largemouth bass. I don't do much fresh water fishing, but I plan to make it back to lake limestone probably this next spring and have another go of it.

Year in and year out, Limestone is a better white bass, crappie and catfish lake than a LMB lake. I've owned property on Limestone for 21 years and have seen a number of cycles on largemouth populations. At present, this was a pretty good year for bass fishing. The numbers seem to be up and as always the average size is better than a lot of other lakes. One development the past few years has been the proliferation of yellow bass in the lake. The are a voracious species that seem to be hitting the baitfish population hard. I've been in contact with the TPWD fisheries man for that region and he told me that in the last netting sample the state did on the upper end of the lake, the nets were "full of yellow bass". He said that the impact of this infestation would be a wait and see situation. I'm afraid that it may have a future impact on Limestone's fishery.

Bryan Bass Club had a small club tournament there in September. The winner caught a 17 lb limit on Saturday afternoon for first place. I had four weighing 9+ lbs for second.
They were hitting crankbaits on timber and plastic under boat docks. Most of the club didn't do as well.
For a while, Limestone became a good spinnerbait lake. For the past ten to fifteen years, it's been rather barren, kinda muddy, with timber concentrating the bass. They seemed to need the flash and vibration to hit.
Now, over the past couple years, a variety of native vegetation is taking hold again, like when it was first opened, with a little more cover for bait fish, and what seems to be a recovering LMB population. This latest vegetation helps clear the water slightly too, so perhaps more plants will survive.
Seems like it was always good for crappie and cats if you knew the right drains or locals' brushpiles. -ray
Thank God for Texas and the USA!!! - Ray

I just returned from fishing Limestone the last few days. Fishing chrome topwaters around the weedbeds near deeper water was fun. Mostly school size fish, but a few larger ones up to about 3 1/2 lbs. The water is clear (for Limestone) and about 2 1/2 feet low. Ben
