Do you think it's a scary proposition for someone to look up your TX numbers on TP&W's website and immediately know the boats manufacturer, serial number, motor size, owners name, address and lien holder info?
Well that's exactly what they've done. The information is available for anyone to look up and all you have to know is the TX numbers. That means if you're driving down the road Mr. Bad Guy knows (1) you ain't home and (2) where you live.
If this irks you like it does many of us let TP&W know. They'll say it's public info but in the past you either had to fax in a request or go to their office. Now when you launch your boat the guy with a smart phone standing at the ramp immediately knows your address.

Unfortunately, every time you register a vehicle in Texas....it's open to the public. A royal pain, because that's where a lot of the junk mail and phone calls come from... I was informed by a friend, who's a cop, the info is actually sold...I hope that's wrong........

That's the point of the post. Please call TP&W tomorrow and voice your concerns.
You might as well have your home address decaled on your back window along with "I'm not home" as the guy next to you at the stop light already knows that now.

I can too. I have already emailed them and expressed my concerns. I am very disappointed that they have elected to do this.
I too got there in 2 clicks. Even though you have to fill out some personal information to the the information you want. It can be all bogus.
I said in my email that when I fill up with gas in the morning at 5:00 am and they see my numbers, they now that I will not be at home for quite some time. What about my family?????? This makes my blood boil.

Just pull your TX numbers off of the boat and keep them in the glove box, but this is total [censored] that some genus thought he would make the program better but did not think about the consequences. I promise you if your identity is stolen from stolen info. the place that it was taken from will not assist you in anyway to restore it.
