I will be visiting my parents in The Woodlands for Christmas and was wondering if anyone fishes that lake? I am interested in crappie and bass. Thanks.

I live less than 10 minutes from there and I have fished it a few times. There are crappie and catfish in there but I have not seen bass come out, only some small hybrids.
For crappie put a minnow under a bobber. For catfish you can use worms, chicken liver, or dip bait. North shore park seems to be better than south shore park, especially for catfish.

Where did you fish for crappie? I know they just put in a new bridge and I was thinking about trying that out. By the way, I have seen some big bass come out of that lake but it was a long time ago.

I haven't fished for crappie there, only for catfish, but the people I see crappie fishing are at south shore park on the little island by the dragon. I have heard that crappie will use the dragon as structure but I haven't tried it.
From looking at the lake I would really like to get in a little jon boat with a trolling motor and go to the other side that does not have park access.

Duck man, I was originally from the Woodlands but live in Dallas now. I have fished Lake Woodlands but it was a long time ago and we were crappie fishing at night. We had a light and were using minnows and we pulled out about a 5 pound bass that night. I have heard that some big bass have been caught but not sure where. I will probably fish this lake a lot the week after Christmas (tube fishing) so if you are interested in hooking up then let me know. It's always more fun with a partner. So basically, no tips right now, sorry.

Some years ago, my secretary's son pulled a 6 lb bass ( I saw it mounted ) out of one of the ponds in the Woodlands. I'd check the many ponds out, before fishing the much larger Lake Woodlands. RG

I have caught many bass out of the ponds in The Woodlands, a couple over 5 pounds. However, I would really like to do some crappie fishing and I think the lake may be a better choice.

robertwb, Thanks for the invite but the week after Christmas will not be good for me. Also I don't have a tube to go out with you in. I usually fish Conroe in a boat but I like to take my son over to Lake woodlands sometimes because it is close and I can teach my boy about fishing without dealing with boating at the same time. This was my son's first fish, it was at North Shore park at Lake Woodlands... [This message has been edited by Duck_Man (edited 12-11-2003).]

I FISHED ALL THOSE PONDS WHEN I WAS A KID.CAUGHT ALOT OF REALLY NICE CHANNEL CAT OFF THE BRDGE NEAR THE ICE RINK WHERE THE WATER FLOWS OUT BUT DON'T THINK YOU CAN STILL FISH THERE. IF YOU SNEAK OUT TO THE GOLF COURSE PONDS AT NIGHT YOU CAN STILL HAMMER SOME VERY LARGE BASS.
