Not quite sure this is the place to post this but I'll give it a shot.
When the weather gets a little better I plan on painting the ceiling of my boathouse here at R/C, along with the rest of the outside of the boathouse. My question is... "Have any of you used Bug treatment in the paint and did it work?"
Sherman Williams sells a chemical that is added to the paint that suppose to keep bugs (spiders) at bay at about 14 dollars a portion per one gallon of paint. This price is fine if it works. Spiders have and are creating quite a problem for my boat and equipment and I need to get rid of them if I can without creating a problem for the lake.
Any help or input on this problem will be received with great interest.
Thankyou Steve

I have some friends that hang up Medicated Livestock tags around their boat dock and in their garage. It does help, but not 100%.
As a matter of fact I do fish like a girl!

I have a place on RC as well. I buy a small but expensive bottle of concentrated insecticide at the RC hardware store. Mix about 1/4-1/2 ounce to 1 gallon of water in a pump up sprayer. I spray the boat house, everything above the deck and usually lasts all season. I also spray around the perimeter of my home and it works great for spiders and scorpions. The product is USDA approved for food service establishments. I don't have experience with the paint adder, but it sounds like it makes a gallon of paint pretty pricey!

Hi doublejack,
What's the name of it? Does it have a phone number or website on it?

There is a product you can get at some feed stores called demon wp.It is a powder that you mix w/water and spray using a bug sprayer. It works fairly well for spiders, scorpions and such.

novel approach, but it works...... Geckos. those little brown wall lizards that are EVERYWHERE down there. catch about 20 of them, and release them up in the eaves of yuor boathouse. their diet is primarily spiders and other night insects. they never stop eating. I had a bad house spider problem in my garage years ago when my house was new. went to a strip-mall in Carrolton and caght 10 big geckos.let em go in the garage and spiders were gone in a week. still no spiders here, but tons of geckos!

Demand CS works well on spiders, But you have to realize it is TOXIC to fish and birds. Be careful as not to get any in the water. Read the label on the bottle or any pesticide label and you will find that most are TOXIC to fish and birds. I have 14 years experience in this field, I know first hand. Best way to combat this problem is to use a broom to sweep the spiders and cobwebs down periodically. Please if you have any questions on this matter PM me.

Demon wettable powder packets are the best I've found for controlling spiders in my boathouse. I'd been fighting them for about 5 years before I discovered Demon. I get it at Producers co-op in Bryan, but you can probably find it at most ag supplies. During the summer, I spray about once every 90 days. There is also a system called spider-be-gone that sprays a pyrethrin product automatically that I've heard gives good results, but it was to pricey for me. Good Luck

I use a product called Tempo which you can find at the feed stores in Corsicana (R.C. dwellers). I've used it liberally around my house on the lake to control spiders, scorpions and everything else. It works great. I use it on the boathouse, inside the boat, on the trailers, etc... I've found that an application is very effective for about two months and then you must reapply to keep spiders and wasps out of everything. It is toxic to fish so be very careful when applying near water. When done correctly there should not be a problem with contamination. It is expensive but a $40 bottle lasts me two years - heck of a lot cheaper than an exterminator. Just my .02

Thankyou very much for the input.
Yes, most people I know around here use DEMON water packs on there piers, though it is effective, its not anywhere near a 100 percent effective but it looks like the best I can do. I'm going to go ahead and use the "Treated Paint' and hope the paint plus the DEMON treatment will control the spiders.
Their is some truth to using cattle ear (fly) tags especially in tight covered places and in your boat when under a boat cover. I use them to keep Ants out of electrical equipment AC's, water pump motors, etc. The Ear Tag will help keep Mud-Dubbers out of your boat and boat motor.
For the people around the R/C area, "Doublejack" is correct, you can get DEMON wet packs at RC hardware (nice people too).
Bug-be-gon is water toxic (be carefull)
