Man! Why did I not think of a milk crate!! Thats a great Idea! We picked up 2 milk crates while hunting yesterday.
I'll have to get some screw eyes so I can bungee cord it in like you have it. Great Idea! Thanks for sharing!

When you are ready to get a bigger yak (and you will), check out teh classifieds on www.texaskayakfisherman.com and www.kayakfishingstuff.com. You will also find lots of rigging options and lessons learned. What area of the state are you in?
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

That Pelican Burst will be hard to rig out for fishing, no place for a crate in the rear and rod holders will be difficult to mount it looks like. If you plug the hole behind the seat so water does not come thru & put pad eyes back there you might get a small bag of gear to bungee down. If your going to fish allot out of a yak I'm sorry to say you may not like that yak.

I have never paddled that boat, but I have heard people like them. The size is good, functional on both rivers and lakes, just avoid lake days with a lot of wind, but more importantly on heavy power boat days. You'll find you will enjoy rigging it out.

Congrats on your new yak snaggletooth. I also got my first new yak. Mine was a Xmas gift. I haven't put it in the water yet. I'm still trying to figure out how to use it. Kind of nervous about tipping it over and losing my stuff, or getting wet. I have waders to keep my butt dry, but they wouldn't be good to swim in. LOL. I have a pelican castaway. already bought an Eagle Cuda 168 fish finder. trying to figure out how I'm going to mount that too. Lots of stuff to figure out. I'm sure, like me, you enjoy figuring it all out too.
Congrats again.
Shut up and fish!

I have seen a few different ways of installing a fishfinder and transducer. Of coarse it depends on the yak, but I have my transducer mounted on the bottom with banding material from the shipping dept where I work. The screen is mounted just in front of the cockpit on the deck. I have also seen them tie wrapped to PVC mounted to hinge down beside you. This is a great idea if you have the bungees on the side of the yak.

Congrats again. I did a little mod on the transducer of mine and mounted it through the behind seat scupper hole works great. I will try to post some pics.

I have mine mounted on a ram mount that is attwached to the flat the gunwell (flat facing me)that is between my legs. Have a 12 v battery in a dry box that is inside the hull. The transducer is also mounted inside the hull on the bottom using a cut out foam and marine goop to assure the transducer does not see any air prior to hitting the hull/water interface. Works great.

You can also get a pool noodle, cut 3-4 inches off one end, cut out just enough out of the middle of the noodle to get the tranducer puck through and marine goop it to the inside of your hull. Then just fill the middle of the noodle with water and push the puck into the middle of the noodle. This will then shoot right through your hull without any problem plus the tranducer is kept safe.

Well I joined the ranks of the addicted today....got myself a Pelican Castaway (11'6") from a feller that didn't ever even put it in the water. Guess I'll have to start paying more attention to this section now.
