WHILE CATFISHING ON LAVON TODAY I NOTICED SOMETHING INTERESTING (CATFISHING?? I KNOW.) THE WATER ON MAIN LAKE WAS 48. IN COVE (7-10 FT WATER) 52. UP SHALLOW 55-57 (I COULDN'T BELIEVE TEMPS THIS HIGH). HOW DEEP SHOULD WE MEASURE WATER TEMP TO START GETTING ACCURATE READINGS ON WHAT TO EXPECT FROM OLE PAPERMOUTH?

The length of day is what triggers spawning in crappie but water temperature affects their metabolism. Fish become more active as water temperature nears their particular comfort zone and the crappie spawn tends to be where these two factors line up to the fisherman's advantage...

I'VE BEEN TOLD LENGTH OF DAY TRIGGERS SPAWN (MANY TIMES). IF THATS TRUE THEN HOW COME I SEE TATTERED TAILS IN MALES ANYWHERE FROM FEB. TO APRIL ON MY HOME LAKE
