You said it. I have a CHL and always keep mine on me whether I am fishing or not. I don't always feel the need for it while I am fishing but you never know when your gonna walk back up the ramp to see your window busted out of your truck.( On some un-named lakes in TX. ) Or even worse somebody still in it. My .45 won't do me any good if he finds it before me.

On Mexican water you either take it with you and break the law or don't take it and just don't go anywhere you might feel threatened.

I carry mine with me all the time, truck or boat, but would not risk carrying it into Mexico as is against the law and you could end up seeing way more of Mexico (and for a longer period of time) than you ever wanted to. Just my .02 worth

I dont know for sure but a long gun should not be a problem. I have always kept shotgun in a compartment. Unless I am fishing mexico then I go without a weapon it aint my country and we dont make the rules there.

Carry a 3 year old kid that just drank a mountain dew with a zebco 33 and a crankbait....It's the most dangerous thing on the water!

I think I read that in the worst fishing accidents thread too.

I go fishing to take care of all my stress and the love of fishing and if I had to worry about anything when or around where I go fishing I just wouldn't go. just my thoughts , and goodluck with the fishing.

I would never carry a gun in a boat in Mexico. Also I don't think it is lawful to discharge a firearm on the water unless it is a shotgun during waterfoul season. And dont Federal laws apply on all border and Corp. lakes? So it would seem to me that a state issued CHL would not be worth much in federal waters.

Bassakwards-I believe that only way to carry a long gun in your boat would be just like you would in your vehicle. It has to be in plain site. You can not hide a long gun in your vehicle and I believe you can not hide a long gun in your boat or your braking the law. Grey area, be careful

I just got back from Falcon. If you mind your own business and keep your space you will not have any problems. However, I do have a question for those of you who say you do carry in Mexican waters. Should you find yourself in a situation in which you feel threatened what would you truly do?

1. Would you defend yourself with deadly force and risk spending many, many years as a guest of the federalies?

2. Would you defend yourself with deadly force and haul azz back to Texas?

3. Would you simply attempt to difuse the situation and get back to Texas (cut and run)?

There is not a good answer to this question but if you think you need to carry you should also think very hard about how you would handle the situation if it arose given you are in another country with much different laws.

BTW, the fishing sucked last week!!! However, I've got a mexico license goods for 1 year so I'm sure I'll be back.

Hey evv59, CHL or not IT IS LEGAL to carry a gun in your car or boat. Effective Sept. 1 2007: a person who can legally possess a firearm may possess or carry a handgun in a motor vehicle (including a recreational vehicle with living quarters) that is owned by or under lawful control of the person. However, the firearm must be concealed....Keep in mind, if you are fishing a professional bass tournament you CAN NOT carry or possess a firearm. As for Lake Amistad, I would not think you could carry a gun due to being a National Park. But, its your life do whatever you want.

Why don't you contact Mexico and ask them?

I do have a CHL and recently bought a 380 because I can carry it in my pocket. Also have a Glock for when I have to go to Dallas. As for Mexico, I grew up on the border and have no desire to get near it again 1500+ people were murdered in Juarez last year
