 prop shaft play...how much is normal??

I own a 1999 Merc. 225efi...is that a good sign of wear on an engine?

Prop shaft end play runs btween 30 & 50 ths so that end play your feeling is normal....OPTI

You wanna make sure that the play you feel is prop shaft end play,if you have a Flo Torque hub kit for the prop make sure that the prop nut is tight and the play you have is not just a prop that is not tight,snug it down and check again,if the prop stays loose it will shorten the life of the hub from shifting into gear.The only movement you should have is straight back and forth,not side to side.

You may also need the sleeve bushing that goes between the thrust washer and the hub. I bought my hub kit early on and the prop guy I bought it from apparently did not know about the sleeve. My hub wore and the prop started to contact the carrier.
