Hey Ya'll,
In order to simplify my fishing outings and my equipment needs I've decided to just use a set of oars on my 14' jon boat. My question is, what length do I need (5.5', 6', 6.5', etc.)? My boat has a 36" bottom with about a 54" beam. The sides are 17".

Thanks for the help.

GHG

I'd say at least 8ft. Longer the better, imo.

You should get Steve with Steve's custom props to do some custom tuning on your oar blades. I'm guessing with lets say a 40# pull force X 40# thrust at your blade after he tweeks it you would really see a 40# pull force X a 50# thrust at the blade.

I have a 14ft Starcraft semi-V and use 7ft. oars. with oar locks. It seems to be a good fit. If the oar is too short, the circle of path that your arms have to make is not comfortable. (if this makes sense to you), meaning you have to lift your arms to high to make the oar hit the water.

Only problem that I have found with mine, is where the heck do you put the key? LOL LOL

Thanks for all of the help and the cracks (unlike some folks who post on here, I have good sense of humor, especially at myself). I think that I will go with about a 7' oar just to be safe.

Thanks again
