The two closest clubs to McKinney are the Red River Fly Fishers, www.rrff.org , and the Dallas Fly Fishers, http://www.dallas-flyfishers.org/ . The Red River Fly Fishers meet at the Sherman Gander Mtn on the first Tuesday of each month. The Dallas Fly Fishers meet at the Addison Convention Center the first Monday of each month. Both groups have members from McKinney, and the RRFF'ers current president lives there. I've heard that there was a club trying to form in Plano, but I don't know if it ever got off the ground. You'd be welcome at either group. Rex Oops, it looks like the Dallas link doesn't work anymore. When I tested the link, I got a message that it was expired. Their next meeting will be next Monday and it is their annual auction. PM me your email if you need more info and I'll forward some messages to you about it.

Hi Chuck,
Welcome to Texas. You got the right info up above. I'm in the process of joining up also. Here's some more contact info. Charlie Ducote is president of the Dallas FF Assoc. He'd love to get you hooked up. His email is ducotecl@yahoo.com. He's close to me here in Plano.
I also just met Jack Janco who is president of Red River Fly Fishers. He actually lives there in McKinney. Here is his email. jackjanco@sbcglobal.net
Look foward to hearing from you on the forum. Great folks here.
Dave

Whether you join Red River, Dallas, both, something else, or nothing at all, come down to the Dallas Fly Fishers auction on Monday the 2nd. It should be jam-packed and I've seen the list of items that'll be auctioned, which is pretty impressive.
Welcome to the area and to the board - there's loads of great fly fishing here.

Welcome aboard. The Dalls Club will definitely work. I belong to the Fort Worth Fly Fishers, and there are many members that belong to both. The two clubs are doing many activities together, which is cool. If you want to learn about trout fishing, come see my presentation that I will be giving on Fishing Southern Colorado for under $800.00 a week!!! It will be good!!! Later, Russell

Welcome Chuck! Good to have another Florida flyfisher in the area. I see the local clubs have answered your questions so I'll ask one of you.
Where in Florida were you? Pensacola & Orlando here.

If you want to join a club that casts and ties then RRFF. If you want to join an all around club (that also fishes) then Dallas is the way to go.
Unless you are retired I say Dallas.

Chuck
I'm in McKinney, try to do as much local fishing as I can. Glad to see you here. Once it warms up a tad we can all start enjoying fishing!

this site ( is the BEST ) and the Texas Fly Report site serves the DFW folks well. plus the Texas Kayak site is great too. Meet people there and you'll hit the water quicker and more often
When I was promoting the Dallas FlyFishers Club's local outings - I got more rouge fishermen to attend from the forum posts - than I did from the club membership. That was enough for me.
Dont get me wrong - that club does agreat service to the community.
But their logo ( recently) had a mountain/trout stream/ dry fly in the picture.
Don't that tell a whole 'nother story....

Where in Florida were you? Pensacola & Orlando here. I lived in Orlando. Spent most of my time over in the Mosquito Lagoon chasing redfish and trout. Also on the St Jons river chasing shad. I used to run a Hellsbay Whipray and once and a while drug out the kayak. The boat didn't make the trip but the yak still hangs in the garage. Seeing as I work downtown (yeah I know) the Dallas club would probably make the most sense checking out. Thanks for the warm welcome. I believe I recognize Robin's name from another forum or two
