I have a 21 ft Pro Master with a 130 Johnson, and I am seriously considering repowering with a 4 stroke 150. Does anyone have an idea of what is involved and if can be cost effective? Just dont know what controls are compatible if any.I LOVE the layout and ride of the boat and have to much money in it to sell it and buy a different boat. Does anyone offer a "trade in" on my motor that would help finance the repower? The 130 only has 100 hours on it and is like new, but I am not a fan of the VRO setup and the Johnson stuff from the late 90's seems to be sub-par IMO. The TFF has always been a great source of info for me and I am just reaching out for some opinions. Thank you in advance.

Just repowered my 2000 181 Champion with the 150 Evinrude etech. Love it so far and got a 5 year warranty.
Same deal but the previous motor caught on fire so the insurance did help in covering some of the new engine.
I'm now set for a while before the warranty runs out.
If you are in Austin Texas area call Aaron at Action Marine on FM2222 and we will give you the best possible deal.
Tell him that Allen Wares recommended him to you.

I am guessing here but I think you would not gain much on the lower end with the 4 stroke. Maybe some but not much. The high side will get you several mph and the fuel mileage with the new motor will be substantial to your 130. One big gain you will see is no more 2 stroke oil. They change the oil around 10 hours and then not again until 100 hours. That will significantly improve your oil costs.
Good luck. If you choose Yamaha, look up fastguy. He's usually around and has a Yamaha 150 4 stroke on his boat.
