I'm just wondering if it is customary to offer a tip when you take a guide trip? What's your opinion

Do a search on here and you will fina alot of info on this. If the guide did a good job wether you caught fish or not I say tip them. How much is up to you. But I think most guides do not expect them but appreciate them.
Yes I did admit defeat. Good job back to back champion

I finally settled this in my mind by using a rule of thumb. If I feel like he has worked hard trying to put me on fish and has made a good effort, I tip him no matter what the out come of catching for the day was. If I feel like I was front ended all day long and he caught the fish in front of me, no tip and no return trip. I know guides have to fish some to find fish, but recently I was out with a guide that fished all day long making long casts in front of the boat catching fish. Yes, I ended up catching several myself, but I thought the idea was to have the clients catch fish, not show how he knows the point ahead has a drop off on the end with cover on it and pull fish off of it before either client has a chance to make a cast in there.

I yipped my guide once but she was an exceptional guide.

Fellow Anglers. When you call ..tell your guide what you expect {within reason } tell hom you want to catch fish ..not just watch him catch fish. I hear that all the time from my clients ---of trips with other guides. If he tells you something you dont like..you dont need him. we are out there working for you. youre the boss for that day. he should explain everything about the spot your fishing. why fish hang around there.cover. how to work it. Do not expect them but appreciate them Just like fishingman said, ask questions.... But I am not a bass guide so I would never FRONT END my clients

Thanks for the insight guys. I'm going walleye fishing at Ft.Cobb OK. next week and wasn't sure if I should tip or not. P.S. Thanks to whoever fixed my typing error in the topic field. Believe me I would never try to "YIP" my guide.
