I am new to trolling for stripers. Heading to Braunig this weekend and need some tips. I don't have down riggers, are there any good lure that yall could recommend?

Don't know about Braunig but for lakes like Texoma or Tawakoni trolling is not a good way to catch stripers this time of year. Most fish are caught with suspended live shad or dead sticking soft baits.

As for lures try: Storm wild eyes, bass assasins, or any soft bait slowly, very slowly rolled along the bottom.

Once the water temps start approaching 60°, trolling will become a more effective method for catching stripers. I personally like to free troll and downrig Hyper Striper jigs and tails in 1-oz.

2.5-3.5 mph seems to be the best speed with about 100-125 feet of line out for free trolling and about 60-80 feet out for downrigging.

If you are not good with down riggers you could slow troll deep diving plugs.

There's a clamp style release attached to the cannonball that pinches the line and the fish will pull it free when it hits the bait/lure. Basically hooks itseld (with help of boat forward motion). If you're too cheap to buy the release, rubber bands work well, too.

Bill Norman DD-22's are good deep divers for trolling

I didn't think there were stripers in Braunig??? I used to fish it years ago and never seen anyone land astriper. Did they start stocking it recently? I know that since it is a power plant lake they stock reds.

yea they've been stocking hybrid's down there for a while now. should have some nice ones by now.

trolling is usually better in the warmer months. the water temp. needs to get above 60 & maybe 70 degrees.

Hybrids only in Braunig, not true stripers. Most are small. Try the hell pet rig, u might also catch a red with that set up.

This is the report from TP&W:
Water stained; 62 degrees. Black bass are good on crankbaits and dark soft plastic worms in the reeds and near the jetty and dam. Striped bass are excellent on liver and shad at Dead Tree Point and near the pier, and down rigging silver and gold spoons and marble spinners near the dam.

Never heard of fishing with liver for bass.

As everyone said -- trolling is better in the spring-summer after the water warms up--

However you are welcome to read my website about trolling for stripers & hybrids-- and boat rigging tips-- which may help you understand this fishing technique.

Here what you need to know.
1.)Hybrid/stripers are schooled up most of the time its best to find fish drop the trolling motor and stay on top of them. When schooled, the BIG motor will spook them and make them move OFF.
2.)In the hot 100* heat of summer the fish will skatter in deep water(30 to 50) but holding only about 15 to 25 ft deep. This is the right time to troll so you cover more water to pick 1 here 1 there.
3.)Guys that troll when everyone (groups of boats) sitting on top of schooled fish don't know how to fish and spook the fish off. This leads to a heated day on the lake.

Get some slabs or sassy shad this time of year.

GOOD LUCK
