Chew on this.... Ive been catching them in the middle.
Crappie are mysterious creatures Walleye. Some will head up the creek to chase shad, some will head deep to chase shad, and lots will go to docks and boat houses. The more important issue would be to determine whats going on at the lake you are fishing regularly. It sounds like to me that yalls slip has way to much brush to close together. There is a little secret that works up on Texoma. Most of our fish are caught on slips with tires on the bottom. Not a ton of tires just enough to hold fish. I dont care to go creek fishing much so I can not help you there. And the deep fish, well you just have to find some points and such.

I can't...I've caught them both places this past month. I understand them being deep but can't quite figure out the shallow bite.
Me and a buddy hit Texoma around new years. I didn't take my boat since I knew it would be windy so we tried a couple of bank spots. We caught a dozen up shallow in a creek. The bite did pick up close to sunset.
If you fish shallow try the normal crappie haunts around cover....if you fish deep don't worry as much about cover as bait fish.
