I made the mistake of cleaning my own reels, and one of my old curado's spool will only free spool even if I tighten the brake (not the magnetic ones) all the way down. What did I do wrong?

Sounds like you may be missing some washers from the spool tension cap.

There is a brass shim under the spool tension knob that may be missing or deformed. Check to see if it is missing altogether, and if it is there then turn it over and re-install it and see if that does not solve the issue. If it is missing it will have to be replaced to get the reel to operate properly.

Also make sure the black shim is under the brass shim in under the control knob.

Thank you,

If you are still having problems with it after you check their suggestions i would suggest sending it in.

Mike Hendrix will repair and clean your reels for $15 plus the additional cost for any parts you might need.

His number is 817 229 9341

I put the tension spring in backwards! Doh! Anyway, I vowed never to clean my own reels again!
