I am installing a 24v minn kota on the front of my champion.
The boat is wired for straight 24v. The directions call for a 50 amp circuit breaker...
...I think years ago, the circuit breaker we had went bad, so my dad re wired the whole boat, straight 24v(it was 12/24)
when he did he put in fuses instead of the breaker.
There are two red fuses sticking out. The are red, look like buttons, and say 40 on each.
Also, my old troller had a plug that came out of the pedal, and plugged into boat up front. Big plug.
The minn kota has a red and black wire coming out of pedal, no plug.
What do I do with this???
will this work as is, or do i need to change etc. I would think if it was rigged for 24, and i ran it for years it would be fine...but wanted to be sure. Im not an electrical kind of guy. But I want to fish saturday!
Thanks for your advice!

The red buttons are the circuit breakers. They should be 50Amp instead of 40. Most of the new motors will pull between 45 and 55 Amps on high. Take the plug off your old motor and put it on the new one or buy a new plug for the new motor.

Need help too. Just installed 24v TM. Where should the circuit breaker be installed? And how many should be installed for 24 volts?

On 24v all wires are in series so only 1 50amp at + to trolling motor is needed.

Ok, upon further inspection and talking to my dad...I actuually have NO fuse or circuit breaker. The red things were old breaker that was unused and broke.
So...now I am going to install a breaker.
BUT--directions to my 70 lb Minn Kota Edge call for a 60 AMP...not 50 amp breaker. They are impossible to find.
Even BPS only sells a 50. A boat service guy said 50 is fine.
Am I ok going with the 50 vs 60? Or will it trip the whole time etc
Thanks.

youll be fine with a 50 amp, i have a 50 on my 71# motorguide and dont have any issues, just put it as close to the battery as possible and make sure all your connections and terminals are clean and free of any corrosion. enjoy the new trolling motor
