Just realized there was a fly section!

Yea, we went Saturday and limited on small trout at the dam in a couple of hours. Went back on Sun and got tired of catching small trout at the dam so headed to a protected hole I used to fish in years past. She is the one who caught all three in the pictures. They were all over 19" which is truly amazing to do in Texas. We kept our 2 over 18" and continued catching until dark. Very amazing day of trout fishing!

Do you know about Catch & Release? You should practice it. It's good for the fish and the soul. Sure, it may be 'legal' for 'her' to keep one fish over 18" but she kept TWO. Yeah, I know there were two of you so I guess that's your rationale for keeping two, but it's not in the spirit of the law.

Do you know who you can thank for those big fish? Not the TPWD! They only stock 'SNIT' (Stand Nine Inch Trout) or thereabouts. Please send your thanks and donations to Guadalupe River Chapter of Trout Unlimited(www.grtu.org). GRTU buys and stocks, using volunteer labor, these exceptional fish. You should also know that those 18" + fish (if not taken) have a very good chance of living over the summer with Minimum Flows established by agreement between GRTU and GBRA. We have two, maybe three year old fish in the Guad now! The Guad is no longer just a 'put & take' fishery but is now a 'put, grow & take' fishery. In fact, we have proof of wild rainbow trout hatched and now living and thriving in the Guad below Canyon Dam! So, the old logic "the fish are just going to die anyway" is no longer true.

PS. Level the playing field. My great grandmother could catch these trout with barbed hooks and powerbait. Fish barbless, single hook, no bait.

PUT 'EM BACK!

Nice Bows! To each his/her own on C&R, but I agree they look better swimming away than dead on the shore..Still nice to see there's some big trout in the Guadalupe, thanks to GRTU. Good work!

Let me step in here as moderator and ask that the C&R debate not be allowed to generate bad will.

It's a topic that raises strong emotions. It's a topic that, I feel, requires it's own thread.

Cool pix, nice fishing!
