I have 6 post to replace. I dug up 3 of them yesterday, there must of been 18 inches of concrete with each post. I have three more to go but going to wait till tomorrow to do it.

Is it a possibility?

I had to remove four posts a couple of years ago. I used a sledge hamer to crack the concrete. Then I used some lag bolts to bolt a 2x4 to the post about 12 inches above the ground. I placed a floor jack under the 2x4 and just jacked the post up about 12 inches. At that point I was able to lift them out by hand.

Ok, here's what you do, but I never told you this.

Dig a VERY small diagonal hole, reaching to the very bottom of the post. Spray a 1/4 can of starting fluid in it. ( ether) Then drop ( toss it from a distance) a lit match in it and hit the deck. The post will pop up enough to pull it put, concrete and all. Might be a good idea to wear a hard hat too.

( seriously...dont try this ! It's VERY dangerous !)

It's also a quick way to seat the bead on a race car tire. ( dont ask me how I know)

Wonder how many Home owners cussed you up and down at a later date when they went to repair one? rolfmao

Cute. I'll let you know if ANY of them ever calls back for a repair...

If there is enough of a post to get a chain on - Make a loop in the chain with about 2' of chain. Make a figure 8 and drop one loop on the post and hook the other to a bumper jack. Put a 2x4 or something under the jack to keep it from sinking. Most of the time they will come right up without digging.

Here's what I did:

Mason chisel
Large hammer

Set chisel on concrete against post.
Pound down with large hammer until concrete splits.
May need to repeat on opposite side.
If there's enough post exposed work it back and forth
to loosen. If not you may need to use a pry bar or
dig just a little to loosen & pull the post & larger
pieces of concrete.

Then I had smaller chunks of concrete to mess with
(though not too small) and free from whatever post
was there.

DO NOT break the post off. Wrap a chain around the post and use a "handyman - bumper jack" and they will jack right out. Clean out the holes with a set of post hole diggers and you're good to go. This idea comes from experience of trying to bust the cement up and dig it out.

Once you get the old post and cement out of the hole, bust the cement off and use it with the new wet cement to make the post more sturdy. Dig at least a 24" deep hole and use a full bag of 80lb. Quickrete in each hole with metal post and you will not have any more problems.
