I own 18.5 ft Triton aluminum bass boat and want to try my luck at drifting for cats and looking for advice on drift sock sizes I need. Drift sock manufacturers all vary in their sizes and I assume calculated for one sock placed fore or aft but I would like to use two socks to drift the boat sideways. So could someone recommend some sizes and brand to start with and one more question... do you drift at slower speeds during the winter months as compared to summer requiring a different set of socks?

Maybe THIS SITE will help. You will also need to buy the harness and buoy separate for like $25.

What redfin gave you will work good. You can also use your trolling motor on no wind days.

Try Academy. The Drift anchor they sell is much cheaper and built very well. Make your own harness using a piece of noodle.

the more rope u let out the slower your drift, not by alot but def. slower. I would get 2 of the Academy XL drift socks (like $15 each) and Academy bouy and rope sets($10) and see if that works for you, those will slow my 24ft boat down to like .5-.7mph in 15mph winds. my next sock is gonna be like 8' across with adjustable outlet that way i can control how fast i am going. Still gonna keep the academy socks for drifting shallow water

I keep 3 socks on board my boat. Have 3 36" and 1 24". Now my boat is a 22' express center console. Depending on wind I use up to all three! They were bought at academy. Now, you can buy the all purpose rope there and they do sell white foam floats for $1 a peice. U can make several harness's under 10 bucks!

what you need is a drift chute. it consist of 2" pvc, a cap for each end, a bag of sand, deck screen, 2 golf balls and some small rope. you can check out the lake lavon forum and get instructions and pics of one. basically it makes a 10ft x how ever long your boat is under water sail. and you can do it for about 40 bucks. it wil stop your boat in 20 mph winds and make you drift straight.
