My son is going to UTMB in Galveston and has very little free time. He has several weekends in June available and wants to plan an offshore fishing trip. I need some recomendations on good guides and what type of fishing is good in June. Should we try to plan for early June or later in the month. Also are private charters the way to go or are the larger party boats OK. I can't afford to spend a fortune but will spend a bit more for the chance for a better quality trip and experience. Any info would be appreciated.

check out the big E out of freeport, you can do a 24 for two people at about the same rate as a private charter and I can tell you from personal experience that you will not be diapointed. Yes they have raised prices over last year, but that price now includes food and beverage(well worth the price)! I have fished that boat since the first trip when capt. elliott's had it and have never been disapointed, bar none the best boat and crew in the gulf>

Big E prices are utterly rediculous now.... not worth it.

Big E trip went up $400.00 per person on the 62hr, thats $800.00 for my wife and I. We don't eat 800.00 worth of food in a month.
For us on the Scat Cat except for the ride out and the ride in we( actually I was sick for the first 14 hrs) didn't have much time to eat a real meal since we were fishing, working on equipment or trying to nap. I cooked one steak during the trip.

I used to love fishing on the Big E. Prices are now ridulous. My pick would be a 40 to 48 hour trip out of Dolphin Docks in Port Aransas. Always caught fish on these trips. Not the most comfortable boat in the world, but best captains and they always catch fish. I think these prices run about $400.00 per person and they do include food. Be sure and be on the boat that captain Ryan McLaughlin operates...he's good.
