I did that once on Lake Arlington. I couldn't get it out so I went over to the fire department right there by the lake. I walked in and they all laughed their @#$%'s off!!! Then they helped me get it out. Great times!!!! I'm glad you shared...I feel a little bit better about my mishap...lol

I know the feeling. Got a large topwater lure hung in my chin. Always carry a 20 gauge sterile needle in your tackle box. Put the needle over the barb and remove.
"If this ain't a mess, it will do till one gets here."

Same thing happened to my Partner. She had to go to the hospital to have it remove.

Let's see.. My brother embedded a johnson spoon in the back of my head when I was around 12 yrs old. Had that removed at Grapevine hospital, lost several hours of fishing. I embedded a crankbait treble in my finger (couldn't remove it on the lake because the point was trying to come up through my fingernail from the bottom up), had to load the boat and drive myself to Grapevine hospital for removal so I lost more time fishing. They used the needle trick as described above. Then, about 5 yrs ago I embedded another crankbait treble hook in my finger pas the barb and it was just trying to poke through on the other side of my finger. It was 5:00 am and tourney day so I wasn't going to miss time sitting in a hospital. Told my partner to hold the light. I used the wire cutters to cut the hook away then I pushed the hook through enough to where I could use needlenose pliers and pull it all the way through. Hurt, but didn't miss any fishing time!

I did the same thing once on a family vacation in NH while fishing from a canoe with my kids. Was unhooking a rapala from a pickerel. I thought my sister in law and mom in law were needing a hospital trip after they watched me push the barb through and cut the hook in the kitchen. They kept wanting me to go, but it'd cost $100 co-pay and 4-5 hrs sitting there. No thanks. Fixed it myself.

A fish hooked me last year with a crankbait. I caught a little hybrid last year on a crankbait and while I was trying to get it off the hook it shook the back hook into my pinky. Needless to say it went all the way through the tip of my finger no bones. The hubby had to come help me. We took the fish off the hook first and no I did not kill it and then he cut the crankbait off my line. And next told me to turn my head and shoved the hook through my finger and then cut the bar off and pull it back through. Believe it or not I went on fishing but the first 4 or 5 fish I would not take off the hook. He called me a sissy. Anyway after that I began to start taking them off myself it wasn't easy but I decided I better do it. Now you can't even tell I was ever hooked. No scar.
