I might bite the bullet and buy one. But I would like some of everyone's thoughts on this unit. PROS and CONS. I like to fish for crappie and catfish.
What's your thoughts on internal VS. external antenea.
THANKS...

If you are going to mount the unit on your console and not tilt it back and forth the internal antenna is fine. If you mount it on the bow and tilt it will loose the signal and have to find the position again. I have to 525-C on my bow and love it.

It would mount on top of the console with a swivel mount. Probably stay at the same tilted angle.
Any more of you have any suggestions?

I got one a few months back and its great. I went with the internal antena and mounted it on a Ram bracket that swivels so I can use in the driver seat and at the bow without forking over the cost of 2 units. When I win the lottery I'll get the HD version in the console and move the 522c to the bow. Enjoy!

I have a 520 up front and a 28 on dash. I like my units, but getting started was tough. Especially if you want to use all the features. I spent a bunch of time on the water learning my unit. Some of the folks on here that have knowledge of them are a GREAT help if you need advice. The instruction booklets are dictionaries.

I have 2 units; 1 on the console & 1 one the bow. I have been very pleased with both.

I know several boats which have this unit installed, most are very pleased with the unit. The only problem which I am aware of is when the unit is mounted flush inside the console, the GPS reception is sometimes lacking. If I were to mount one on my boat I would use a RAM mount and mount it on the side of the console.

I have a 522c on my console and it works great...The only problem I have considered is that if the antenna goes out on a 520 then you replace the antenna...If it goes out on a 522C you have a head problem...
However, mine works flawlessly...

Got one on my new Lund and love it. Suggest the external antenna.

I also have 522C and you can add a external antenna at anytime. No problem.

I've had three 522c's with internal antennas mounted on Ram mounts. I love 'em. Get the DVD tutorial by Bennet Marine. It cost about $15 at BPS. Best money I ever spent on my boat. It's about 40 minutes long and simplifies the whole thing. I trashed the confusing manual and learned the entire list of features in about a day from the DVD. I learned more the first 30 minutes than I had in 3 years of reading the manuals. It's great!
