Here is a question for the "board" - I would really like to hear from you guys who do this for a living...

I am planning on buying a GPS/Depth Finder to add to my boat which already has a depth finder on it.

My question is since I have brushpiles ect for crappie fishing - would the optimal positioning of the GPS/Depth Finder be on the front of the boat or on the console? Why? And of course I would mount the "reg" depth finder in the other location.

Thanks for your comments and nuggets of wisdom.

Not this is the 'right' answer but I had the same question. I knew I didn't want to spend the $$ to replace both so I did what a friend did. Put the lowrance 522c on a Ram mount next to the console. This way I can point it to me when driving and when I go to the front of the boat I turn it toward me. Using the GPS and Sonar in tandem I can stay over creek bottoms, drop offs, and other structure. You will definately like the combo unit.

Also when you find what you are looking for, toss out a marker. Real good refrence point if you move....
