I had three panels blow over and the post went with them. I bought new panels and metal pipes to go with them. What is the easiest way to get the old wooden post and concrete out?

I was thinking about going to Home Depot and renting an auger or a trip to downtown Ft. Worth for some cheap labor.

I would just hand dig. Manual Labor run about 8 buck per hour.

how many posts are you replacing? I had to replace one side of my fencing a few years ago. Over half the posts had snapped below grade so I cut off the remaining posts and started from the other and was able to dig new holes without worrying about pulling the old ones.
If you're going to rent any power tools, get a jack hammer not an auger, the auger bit will only get stuck (been there done that too)

I've always heard to just cut the old post off as close to the ground as possible and leave its remnants there and then create a new hole for the new post.

I had a problem with one post shifting cause it's in the runoff path and then my fence leaning cause of the wind. I'd dig a new hole so you don't have to worry about the soil being loose from replacing the old one.
What a maroon!

i'd get a tractor to pull them out of the ground...and i'd put an auger on the back of the tractor to dig my new holes..manual labor made easy.

For y'all that are saying leave the post and dig another. How do you handle the seam in the fence panels? Doesn't the post need to be on the seam to hold the two panels together?
Not following the dig another hole logic, please enlighten me to the trick.

Unless that fence was put up in the 1970's or early 80's, I doubt the cement is more than 12 inches deep, although it should be...About 30 minutes and you should have it out and be started on putting in the new post...

i took out the footing for two posts with a pick axe and a sledge hammer, once we were almost done we decided if we ever were going to do that again we would rent a jack hammer of some sort. Those tools worked, just took awhile and a lot of effort. I would take them out and then pour new footings and if theyre deep enough, you will be fine.

The problem is, you bought panels. That leaves you few options. In order for the panels to work as you bought them, you have to dig out the old concrete and reuse those holes. When I was building fences, we made the fence fit they terrain with rails 4',5',6',7', 8' or what ever length we needed and then put on the boards.

Wonder how many Home owners cussed you up and down at a later date when they went to repair one?
