Hola. I have fished port a all my life, but cannot make the trip from dallas as often. Are there some good spots to kayak fish on Christmas bay or cold pass? If so, where are they. Thanks guys.

I am stuck up here in Dallas also. ( for 30 years, but it is just temporary)
A lot of Christmas Bay now is simply going to be working the grass lines and cuts. I have fished it all my life, but have not been since Ike. So this is just guessing now.
I would start where cold pass enters the bay. the cut just inside the old house has been good to me. The area just in front of the old house has produced a lot of winter trout for me also.
If you are using a Fish finder just watch the small cuts also. they are pretty narrow and concentrate the fish when they are moving.
Good luck and post up when you make the run.

If it is still there it is north east of Ernie's. I might be surprised if Ike left it there. Effectively it is at the mouth (Christmas Bay end) of the cut going out from SL pass. I'll see of I can detect the GPS coordinates for it and post up. you can put them in google earth and it will drop a pin for you.

Go to google earth and put these co-ordinates in. ( or just google maps I guess too.)
The cuts around the island offer fair protection from the wind as well as concentration during changing and low tides. The bay is shallow enough that waves are not usually a problem anywhere. They also accelerate the current, but not a biggie.

I fished the area around the pass where you paddle out of the canal up to the yellow cabins (prolly gone now too) and caught a few good fish on a windy weekend.

YES. That is it.
If you zoom in you will see an old house in the water on stilts. The area around it and in front of it produce pretty well. In front of the point just to the left of it has produced some of my best winter sow trout. If you proceed up that shoreline to the right there will be an older house that is just wrecked timbers in the water at the mouth of the cut going to the left. The junction of the main channel and that cut, all the way to the other end of that cut have always been some of my first efforts when I go there.
I would stop and buy a 4' or 5' cast net before you get there. Practice throwing it a few times if you have not used one before. The menhaden (mud-fish) and mullet you catch will be your best go to on this. I use a cork and float them just over the bottom drifting all the structure I can find. If I am in under a foot and a half I will use no weight and still attach them to a float to "troll" them over likely structure. You Stand a very good chance of an encounter with a flounder doing this.
A Johnsdone Sprite gold (for redfish) or silver ( for trout) spoon is an old stand-by if you don't get bait. Obviously everyone on this board seems to have good luck with Gulp. Maybe I don't hold my nouth right, but at a dolar a bait and with bait stealers around I really prefer my live bait.
Live shrimp under a popping cork is great, but I will be very surprised if you can find any and even then it is going to be very expensive..
As always.... on some days it is stones and some days diamonds.
Hope you have a diamond day!.
