Who is familar with these, especially the crankbait rods, and what are your thoughts on them? How do they compare to other more common brands? thanks.

They are very nice rods, but pricey. The value of them is all up to you.I personally wouldn't spend a lot on a cranking stick, but that's me.The jig rods and other "feel" technique specific rods are where I would spend my money.Berkley has a 60 dollar rod at wal mart that's built for deep cranking. That would be my choice if I weren't into name brands too.

Just to start this out properly, I am now sponsored by PowerTackle. Honestly, I thought I was just making a lateral move from my prior sponsor. I didn't think there would be much difference in the rods. And, I was a little skeptic about the foam cushion instead of the cork.
I fish alot. Replacing anything that I use excessively with a higher quality item really changes my fishing tenfold. When I realized the jump in quality I had made, my first reaction was that I was simply pissed off. I was pissed off that I had not realized the difference sooner, and made the change sooner. The jump in quality to this rod is substantial.
If you are not obsessive about quality like I am, then you certainly do not need a PowerTackle rod. Absolutely buy the berkley, or BassPro, or whatever you are comfortable with. But I am obsessive about quality, and I believe that bleeds into my success as a tournament angler.
My favorite is the 7' cranking rod. Probably just because I love cranking. I really like the foam split grips, and the collapsable eyes ensure my partner won't break any more eyes off my rods!
Good luck with your rod selections. For me, I will never take the step back whether they sponsor me or not.

I fished with a guide and FLW Pro that was sponsored by PowerTackle. I could not stop taking rods out of the box. I though they where great.

WHAT!? Because I prefer to fish Cara T7's I choose a less quality rod? And that makes me less obsessive about my equipment, dang! You may be on sponsored by them but I sure don't think you should knock what others choose even if you are such a successful angler. By the way, I did try these rods and I am not a fan of bulky fat rods. They are light though.

I havent fished with them yet, but I did get a chance to handle one at Southwestern Parts and Service. The rod is very bulky and thick, but is very light. I for one, ditched my carrot stix because of their foam handles and not sure if Id feel comfortable trying this rod for that reason. I was able to compare this rod directly with the Falcon CCB-5 cranking rod. Im ordering a Falcon next monday.

not knocking Mike or anyone else for that matter, but your going to get your best input and information about products from everyday joe's that spend their hard earned money on the product.
I have no sponsorships with ANYONE. I'm still a NOONE in this business. I use what I like and what I think get's the job done the best. I have a few LOOMIS, a few Falcon and a few Hendrix Rods. I've spent my hard earned money of each of them. I haven't found the exact rod I like from 1 company, that's why I own a couple from different companies.
The only way you will ever know about a product is to use it YOURSELF. If I'm giving you my opinion on Rods/Reels/Baits, heck I might as well go catch them for you too.

i spent a ton of hard earned money on power rtackle rods before i was on their prostaff. but that is a very good point. i will pretty much sya that if you do save up and get one you will not be disapointed at all. just look at their line up and see which rod you would yuse the most and get it, this way you will be able to really have the oprotunity to get a feel of the rod and see what you think of it.

certainly. If your going to buy a rod your unsure of or from a company your unsure of, buy the rod you use the most. that way it gets a true test. then, make your decision from that point forward. don't spend 250-300$ on a rod that you will only use periodically, you'll never know how good it is.

Im not sponsored by them but I do own quite a few of the power tackle rods. If you are wanting to get a crank bait rod of theirs I would suggest their seven foot model. Checkout their website www.powertackle.com I started out with one, now I own fourteen. I am pleased with all of them.

evv59 - quit putting words in my mouth - thats what makes visiting the forum quite un-fun. There is no "knocking" going on here. I stated I was sponsored by them so you can take my opinion however you like. The Caras are fine rods, I used them for years.
If you truly are as obsessive as I am about quality, then try a high end rod. It doesn't have to be brand x or y. There are significant differences. There are significant differences between the caras and the experts.
As far as being bulky - custom order it however you want. Only the heavy flipping and the spinning have oversized grips. It is for a reason. The PG series does not have oversized grips.
But like I said, quit putting words in other peoples mouth. State your opinion and let it stand.

Couldn't have said it better. I didn't have the slightest impression that mkernan was "dogging" anyones product, just stating that this brand of rods are an excellent product.
I think that some of the members on the forum, need to take anger management classes.
