It is sure hard to believe that I just went through 15 pages of recipes here and not one of them was your best tamale recipe.
I have got a powerful cravin for some home made tamales, but the only problem is that I don't know how to make them.
After doing a little research, I am going to my local Mexican grocery store an buy a 10 lb. bag of fresh made Masa dough, a pork butt roast, and some corn shucks, then I am lost after that.
I sure could use a real good recipe so I can make up a mess of them this week end.
Thanks for the help.

Man they are 10x easier to buy em already made. La Flor in downtown Wylie has some really good tamales and I think that they were $7.00 a dozen.

Thanks for the reply. Although I never have tried Le Flore's tamales, I will make it a point to do so. Where exactly are they located in Wylie?
I just wanted to try to make some on my own for a change. I have heard that you will dirty every dish in the house and use every inch of counter space in the process, but I would still like to try some..
I was raised up in the 50's over in Pleasant Grove and an old man named Red Carpenter used to sell them for $1.50 per dozen I think. Sure were good too.

Too much work when there are great ones available on every street corner. This is why Mexican families make them over the holidays when all the womenfolk are together.

Apricios in Plano makes some good tamales. but you can also go to central market and to be honest they are really good as well!

I tried my hand at making tamales this past Christmas.
Short story; hard work and they tasted like poo.

Don't make them unless you have too; buying them at 8 bucks a dozen seems like the deal of the century to me after attempting the process.

Is Danals still open? Used to be in the early 90's. You could buy tamales in a gallon bucket.

I think they were bought out by Elrod's Cost Plus.

Red chili and pork, green chili and chicken or sweet tamales with raisins. Lot of work though...Go find a hispanic grandma and she will so you the ropes on tamales.
