I traded for one of these reels, to see how they compared to the Abu's, and I have to say, it's an impressive reel.
No trouble at all casting, nice loud bait clicker, smooth drag, and I kinda like that lever for the spool release.
The #9 seems like a good size for the rods I use, as well. Mainly 6' Ugly Stiks or a 7' Shakespeare Catfish rod.
Cabela's has these on sale for $49, which seems like a super price for what you get with these. Might have to get a second one, just in case I hit upon somewhere with some nice Cats around.

Hey Mike, you are correct that these are great reels! I've got a penn peerless #9 and a penn peer #109, both belonged to my dad and are over 50 years old! Tried and true, made in the USA. Need a good size weight to cast any distance and may bird nest a bit more than some of the newer styles. Great for trolling and drifting, I'm thinking about getting a new one myself to add to the collection.

I've got one nearly twice my age still ticking. One of the best reels ive ever owned.
