1995 Merc 150, carb.
How the heck is synch and link effected when replacing the trigger?

On that v-6 it really is'nt. However it is necessary to check timing both low and high end. It could be a couple of degrees off, Not so bad if it's low, real bad if it's high. And what the heck, since your there, check it anyways. Only takes a couple of minutes, then you know for sure your getting everything the engine can supply.

I've been sitting here reading and researching my service manual and internet. Replacing the trigger is easy. I understand why I want to check timing. But I have been sitting here for the last day and half trying to figure out how replacing the trigger effects your link and synch when you not touching any of that system or hardware.
Right now my engines are very smooth. Acceleration is great. No problem. I didn't see why I wanted to monkey with something when there wasn't a problem to begin with. If it ain't broke why mess with it!

Link & Synch is just that. You took the linkage loose to the trigger that Synchronises the timming to the throttles position. They are all connected to each other. I would check the total maximum timming to be safe, even if motors running good. If your not familure with setting timming on 2 strokes, take it to a boat mechanic.

I think the recommendation is due to the manufacturing of the trigger. Let's say they didn't put the trigger coils in the exact same place as the original, then the timing could be off. Always a must for my techs to check timing on all motors whenever replacing any ignition component.

I understand the importance of timing. It will be impossible to install a new trigger and trigger rod at the identical length it was on the old one. What I was referring to and did not do it very well was the link and synch adjustments to the throttle valves. I have twins on my boat. Prior to the trigger going bad, I had no problems when accelerating and both engines were balanced at all points on the throttle. The boat came off the gulf. Whoever worked the engines not only got it right for each engine, but got it right for both of them working together. I'm not adverse to redoing the throttle valves, I just didn't want to monkey around with something if it didn't need it.
