Anyone have any input on PowerPoles?? I am leaning towards getting one, any bad or good experiences?

I have been looking at them too, tired of messing with the anchor, but I'm too cheap to fork over the 1000+ bucks. I think I will give the "Cajun Anchor" a try before I break the bank, I can build one for next to nothing and it may get the job done...course I won't look as cool as I would with the power pole...

check this out...

heres a good posting on different ways to make them.

They are great in saltwater. Most of the time you are fishing shallow anyway.

I had never heard of the cajun anchor until today. I watched the video and here's my 2 cents. I have a powerpole on my 17' skiff. It's out of the way it's simple it's quick and it's quiet. The Cajun anchor system seems effective but the problem ,if you want to call it that, is your still dealing with a rope, you have to find a place to store it, if you want to anchor in a hurry you have to fumble around the floor or storage area to get it out and set. All the same problems you have with a conventional anchor. I drift fish on the flats a lot. When the wind is blowing (98% of the time) and I want to stop, I stop right now at the push of a button. To me there is no comparison. The drawback of the powerpole is the price.

Llama I would have to agree if you have the money go with the power pole, I was fishing with a friend last year that had one and you do waste a lot less time and stop right where you want to with the power pole.

I just came across the cajun anchor thing a while back and have been meaning to give it a try before spending the cash for the power pole...

the other nice thing about the powerpole is the remote control.I can set the powerpole from anywhere in the boat. A nice feature when running the trolling motor or poling from the platform.

Here is one more option. I have not used this one, but it looks a little like the cajun but made out of rubber maybe...

Id like to see a video of that stickitanchorpins working on the bays around here with a steady 15 mph North head wind,LOL

What would you do if you are on shell or rock bottom?

Hey tdwhite,I have a couple of ideas to show you next time your down that will anchor your boat.... .Heck I'll even stand in waist deep water and hold the rope so you can fish fish

I started putting one together today, cost me 20 bucks at Lowes for all the parts. Bought 1' schedual 40 PVC. Once I get it all put toghther I will send you a pic. As long as it is a mud or soft bottom I think it will work pretty good, even in 15 mph wind, need to come down and do a test. If it works it will be better than an anchor. I am making it about 8 foot, so it should work ok in 7 foot of water or less, use 2 of them and your boat wont swing around. I thought it would be worth a try for 20 bucks
