OK its 2009 and I hold this section accountable for at least 10 pounds that 2008 nailed on me..... eeks So its time to give back guys. I mean, each of you are minutely responsible for the chub that I have become. laugh So lets hear of some good places to eat something other than deep fried country cooking. I'm a single dad. I cook quite a bit, but we eat out a lot more than most people as well just because its convenient.

What are some good places to eat something tasty that won't pack on the pounds? I always look at the light menus with a little disgust. Haven't tried much from that area so whats good and where? Go ahead and post it here. Can be anything from Sonic to fine dining or even BBQ shacks that offer a lean idea.

Rather than recommending a particular location, I'll give you a bit of advice. A lot of the items on any restaurants "lite" menu can still contain a surprising amount of calories due to manner in which they are cooked. So when you order something off that list tell your server that you want the dish to cooked using little to no oil/butter/fat and make sure they acknowledge and understand your request.
Also, don't be shy about asking if the starch on the plate can be replaced with another vegetable or a side salad.

But, as for actual locations; Subway and Quiznos offer sandwiches tailored for the fat and calorie conscious that are quite tasty. Just be sure not to shoot yourself in the foot by adding cheese, high-calorie dressing/condiments or tacking on a bag of chips and a full-flavored soda.

Hold the cheese, no mayo, no fries/chips, and iced tea (no sugar), instead of soda pop.

Or, simply opt for a grilled chicken sandwich from time to time.

Try that a couple hubdred times in '09!

Subway and Quiznos. OK, I've got a fast food item that is GOOD!

Whataburger's Grilled chicken sandwich. Order it with mustard and ALL the veggies. GREATNESS! Skip the fries and have a diet drink and theres a pretty healthy meal.

Anybody know any regular resaurant foods? I tried Chili's black bean burger, ugh....

I've found a new place that I like to hit every once in a while and I eat nothing fried. Rosa's. I eat the beef fajitas with lots of pico and fresh veggies. I only eat one of the tortillas. Plus they have Miller Lite if your wanting a cervesa and want to keep it on the light side.
