It gives me and the boys a few days to run around and fish.
Last year we did the Kickapoo fishin camp deal, it was a good time but still a bit early for the Crappie so if ya had a week mid march and three youngsters that love to fish, where would ya go?

Thanks
Greg

oh shoot, we are in Mckinney and not afraid to camp but we are bank ridden, ie. no boat.

I don't want to steer you wrong, but I camped out at Bonham State Park in September. There is a small 65 acre lake. I caught several bass up to 4 lbs over a couple of days. They have good restrooms, small quite park.

Heck any input is good input,
I was thinking about trying to do Bonham, then Purtis creek and maybe Tyler State park in a 4 day run with overnight stays where they were catching fish.

If you're going to be that close, come to Athens and stop at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center. It's a great way to spend the afternoon if they aren't biting. Lake Athens is basically next door and there is a campground at the marina.

I know it's aways from you, but there is a campground at the north end of Lake Conroe in the Stubblefield Lake area. From there I could point you towards one of the best walk in spots for white bass down in this area. And spring break puts you there during the prime spawn!

I have been to Purtis Creek also, it is a nice park too and I usually do see people catching fish off the docks. Anyway, wherever you go will be another memory made with the ones you love, so it will be a good trip. God Bless, hope your trip goes well.

I agree with tecajun, but being so close to Houston it also gets busy fast!
If you know anyone in Houston to reserve a spot for you it would be a help.

The wife and I spent last spring break (and will spend the one coming) in Bandera on the banks of the Medina River. We caught lots of small Guadaloupes and sunfish.

Colorado Bend (above Lake Buchanon) has good bank-access white bass fishing too, and they catch a bunch of 2+ pounders.

Bonham city or state park, Crockett, Coffee Mill, Cooper. all within about an hour from each other and you and you can camp at all of them. Id invest in a Jon boat and some paddles you could get to some good fishing on all of them with it and would not have to register it if you dont put on a motor. I think you can even put it on the state park lake if you dont have a motor.

The white bass run is generally in full swing here on Cedar Creek during that time. Were only an hour S.E. of Dallas and 20 miles west from Athens. You can hire me or try your own luck. All the big creeks on the lake should be excellent fishing at that time.
Caney Cove offers cabins and tent camping in a wooded areea next to the lake. Good luck in your decision. Check out my website pictures of last March to see what you could be in for.

Caddo State Park get my vote. They have small cabins or camping and rent canoes. Them boys will sleep real good after being on the business end of a paddle all day!

Broken Bow would be another choice, awesome scenery and lots of shoreline to walk. I think I'm gonna make the 650 mile r/t with my kids this Spring Break. We went in 07 and had the best camping trip ever.

...Them Oklahomely fish are gullible !!!!....

Broken Bow is usually packed on Spring Breaks and hard to get a spot. Pertis Creek is usally not too crowded and has a fishing pier with a feeder.
