hey everyone,
I am looking into buying a new spinning reel to use for finesse worms and probably jerkbaits as well. I was wondering what is the best reel for my dollar and what kind of line would be the best to use for these two techniques? Any advice would be appreciated

I use the Shimano Stradic 2500 FI, around $160. Shimano has some less expensive models that are good as well. You can go with braid, fluoro or mono 6-12# depending on technique. Remember fluoro sinks so don't use it for surface baits.

I have a Stradic 2500 and it's a great reel. I also have a Daiwa Tierra and it's about 40 bucks less and I think it's as good as the Stradic. If you want to spend a bit less, I also have a Daiwa Exceller. They sell for about 69 bucks and they're a great reel for the money.

Pfluger President has 10 bearings and is very smooth. You can find them sometimes for 59 bucks. Useually 79

The Shimano Symmetry is about as good as a Stradic and a whole lot less.

Thanks again for all the input. i would have never thought i would ever buy a spinning reel but i think it would benefit finesse techniques from what i hear. Escpecially now that i am learning how to use the shakey head technique.

I use the Shimano Spirex FD reels for that application. $60.00 but I like the autobail trigger feature.

My advice is to stick with a Shimano, or Daiwa 2500 size reel. I'd also stick to the $100 to $200 range of price points. It'll be hard to go wrong if you stay within these criteria.

You might also check out the Cabela's Prodigy series spinning reels. Sometimes Cabela's has some mighty good deals on these reels. The Prodigies are made by Daiwa so they're of good quality.

What about rods. What is a good type of rod to use for a shimano stradic spinning reel?

The new Stradic FI reels are just super! I've got both a 2500FI, and a 4000FI, and love them both.

I have my Stradic 4000FI on a St. Croix Legend Elite ES68MXF, and my 2500FI on a St. Croix Avid AS76MLXF.

I'm a pretty hard core St. Croix guy, but I also own, and enjoy fishing with a Falcon LowRider Outtasight crankbait rod, as well as a G Loomis GLX BCR893 Senko rod.

The Avid line of St. Croix rods will run about $150-$200.

The Legend Tournament Bass line of rods will run about $210-$280,

the Legend Elite line about $300-$350, and

the Legend Xtreme series about $340-$400.

Personally, I think that the Avids are excellent rods, though I would love to have several of the Legend Elites.

For the 2500FI I go with a MLF, or MLXF rod; and a MXF for the 4000FI.

I use the Shimano Sahara on a Falcon Original with 30 lb power pro and a fluro leader. This has worked pretty darn good for me and didn't break the bank to purchase.

At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!
