they are kids they were just out haveing fun more t hen likley not knowing what they were doing. i guess that they have never been taught that you eat what you kill or catch. ashamed that they left such a pretty bird to lay and die.
but i guess if they had taken to a local taxedermy shop the warden would have been notified, so either way i would have to say good job photoguy.
to the rest of you they are not punks because they are young.
i will almost bet they did not know what kind of trouble they were in to until the warden came out to pay them a visit. Well, I beg to differ. If their knowledge is so little, then their parents ought to be hung out to dry for letting them out of the house with guns and allowing them to use their boat to do it. Ignorance is no excuse.

Very proud of you indeed. You were in the right place at the right time and did the right thing. I bet it was very satisfying riding with the GW.

i will almost bet they did not know what kind of trouble they were in to until the warden came out to pay them a visit. They knew what they were doing was wrong. They did it on a day they knew few people would be home and they probably assumed all the Game Wardens were on vacation or something. On that day, Warden Cotton said he was the only GW for Polk and Trinity counties, so they had the right idea. When that one guy walked past me and smirked, it was blatantly obvious he knew the consequences before he got in that boat with the other two. If they thought what they were doing wasn't wrong, they wouldn't have bypassed the marina to dump their evidence either. That guy on parole (Mr. Smirk) probably did talk the other 2 kids into the outing, but they still knew it was wrong and illegal. They were probably just trying to be cool and not chicken out. I'm sure Mr. Smirky told them both that they could get away with it... that's why he was driving the boat and not shooting. That guy was an EVIL person down to the core. I will try my best to keep up with the legal proceedings as much as I can. Hopefully Warden Cotton will get in touch with me if testimony is needed. I hope I get to testify so I can smirk the whole time right back to Mr. Smirky HAHAHAHA! Thanks to everyone for the PM's and the "Thank You" comments. I know everyone here would have done the same thing if the situation presented itself. I'm pleased to report that my dad called this morning to say that the wildlife has returned to their view from the back patio and they saw even more big white pelicans commuting up the creek than before the incident. I'm grateful my parents weren't witnesses to the crime... it would have ruined the view for them. It will take a long time for me personally to look out at the view without recalling that gray heron being murdered almost point-blank.

Great job!
I was out hunting Tuesday and with no ducks flying I sat there and watched three of these exact Pelicans just having a good ole time. They are beautiful birds.

Good job Photoguy. We were Pheasant hunting 7 or 8 years ago and a Game Warden we were hunting with checked 2 young men and found a pelican. They had it covered in the back of a pickup. He held them until he got help and they went to jail. No tickets. He didnt say what it would cost but did say it was expensive.

Hat's off to you sir for doing the right thing.
One hates to hear of these things, but it goes on. It is nice to know these boys will be held accountable for their actions.

I know I've already posted on this subject but can anybody say Lifetime Fishing Licence? I think if the TP&W would offer that as a reward for turning in poachers, it would be a just reward for somebody that possibly put his self in harms way in order for justice to be served. Can't say good enough about people like you.

Good job and way to get involved, especially on such an egregious matter. To many folks would rather look the other way and just complain about the matter.
