so i got some gift cards for xmas and stuff and was going to buy a new reel...
then i saw a few posts and talked to a few buddies about those new H2O mettles and the H2O manics....
anyways for 50 to 60 bucks thats a good buy... BUT....
some of my buddies wont buy a reel that cheap.. they say .." oh yeah it feels good for a while but after a few good fish the drag will be worn out and such"
well i want some help from u all.... any one of you have these reels for a while and caught good fish on them or are they hype?
i can get 2 mettles and a rod built or can get a chronarc or curado ... just dont wanna waste my money
thanks in advance

+ 1 on the new Energy. I was lucky enough to get two of them for x-mas and I really like the changes. I've always been a fan but the new ones seem to be even better.

i used to have a few pfleugers that ran 60-70 dollars a piece a few years back, and have caught a TON of fish on em,and they still work well, but i made sure to take extremely good care of them as i knew that thay were more likely to wear out quicker, but then i stepped it up and have never looked back, you cant really compare a 50 dollar reel to a revo or a curado, but if those reels arent within your budget then i say go for a cheaper one,but make sure you know how to take it completely apart to clean, oil and grease it,if you know how to do this, and you are diligent about it,your reels will last alot longer.as a matter of fact i still have my pfluegers and still use them from time to time just for fun.

Was cleaning an 8 year old Curado today and explained to my young boy why you buy quality gear. That curado has seen a ton of fish already and as long as I take care of it, my boy will soon get it, even though he'll have to pry it from my hand.

I have 15-20 Abu Garcia reels that were sold in the mid 80's. These reels see a lot of use and abuse. But still work as good today as when they were new. These reels sold for $75 at the time, very pricy for 1985.

My point is buy what you can afford, everyone has there personal preference. But realize that without proper maintanance none will last long and some will definately last longer than others.
