I talked with Tommy Yetts and he told me a way to check the back up lights on a trailer. With the flat wire connectors. Plug the blue into the brown and the reverse lights should come on. Is that right?

That is correct. On most trailers equipped with brakes, the back-up lights and brake cylinder solenoid are connected to a blue wire. Some of the newer replacement wiring harnesses have a white wire for both the ground and the back-up lights and solenoid though. The brown wire is the hot wire for the running lights and this is common to all trailer wiring. So, connecting the brown wire to the blue wire should light up the running lights, the back-up lights, and engage the brake cylinder solenoid (if so equipped). This assumes all lights are properly grounded (which is the most common problem with trailer lighting).

If you plug the brown wire from the towing vehicle to the blue wire on the trailer are you sure that running lights will work?? I think that only the back-up lights and the brake cylinder solenoid will have power. There will not be any power to the running lights.

-If your lights do or do not work, what are you going to do? You did not say what your problem was.

If you drive a GM truck and using the 7 round connector. One thing that happens sometimes it that under the hood, there is a fuse box and you have separate fuses for the trailer and I have had trailer b/u fuse go out before.

I think that is my problem with my chevy, i brought the plug that connects directly into my wirering harness and everything works except when my headlight are on the lights on the trailer don't come on but everything else is working, time to check the fuses i guess.

I JUST had that happen to me. Even the guy at UHaul didn't know. Talk about feeling like an idiot when the Chevy service lady said it was a fuse! She was sure right.

What made us not snap to a fuse was that only the right light was out and the truck lights were working.
