"Texas Monthly magazine chose Kincaid's hamburger as the "best burger in Texas". A national panel of food editors and food critics chose Kincaid's hamburger as the "best burger in the USA". Readers of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram have chosen Kincaid's as the "best burger in Tarrant County" year after year.

3,300 hamburgers were served on the single largest day in Kincaid's history. The hamburgers are handmade from 8eight ounces of the very best U.S. Choice boneless chuck available. The meat is ground fresh daily and everyday is virtually a sellout."

My wife has talked about Kincaids for years. Got to go the next time I am up there.

Kincaids is ok, but not worth the money they want for a burger!

I would take Tommys or even Fuddruckers any day over Kincaids...

Fuddruckers is okay except the meat is really bland as far as I am concerned. One of the best burgers I have ever eaten and I have eaten Kincaids in the past, is at a little BBQ place here in San Angelo Called the "Pack Saddle". If you are ever out this way try it, you won't be dissappointed.

At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

best burger is a tough call
Kincaids are good

I gotta go with Tommies. Kincaids is good, but not the best.

I have not been to the original Kincaid's...went to the location in Arlington at the Highlands.....will not do that again.Best burger is an opinion, just as best truck or best boat or best whatever....I've had lots of great burgers but cant say any of those were the best. There is a good place on hwy 1187 @ J Rendon Rd that served a very good burger last time I ate there.

I grew up in Tyler and really liked a place their called Juicy's. The burgers looked alot like the picture above. Same handcut fries too. You also got free pinto beans while you waited for your order. 7-8 bucks out the door

Juicy's is our local hot spot for burgers! Pretty good stuff if your ever around Longview or Tyler!

I've had so many good burgers in Texas that it would be a toss up between 50 different places. That would be a hard task to nail one down as being the best. Some of the best I can remember were from local haunts around lakes and even in gas stations with a grill. Probably because you just never expect them to be so good from those places, but they usually have 1 thing in common - fresh meat and veggies. The ones like mom and dad used to make!

I've eaten a burger at Juicy's in Tyler and they are good but when I want a good burger around here I hop over to Chilis for a fat ole mushroom burger.

If Kincaids is the best I hate to see the worst. We ate there a few weeks back and it was not remotely impressive. We will never grace their doors again. Without question Fuddruckers was better than Kincaids to us.

Which one did you go to? Only the original is any good. Try the Tommys on lackland rd. Way better than kincaids.

I don't put much stock in those "Top 10" or whatever lists that come out in Texas Monthly or Texas Highways or the local paper.
One of the best burgers I had was at Blue Duck's Ice House in Llano. It wasn't real cheap and it came with stale chip fragments but dang it was good. The burgers were cooked on a smoker outside and all the veggies were homegrown locally. Should have seen those beefsteak tomatoes.
Cold longneck and purty young waitress made for a nice ambience.

Only because there is a whole other world outside of the metromess. I grew up in Arlington, left when I was 18 (Uncle Sam imperative) and haven't been back except to visit. Good food and far less "foreign" influence from up north when you get away from the I35/45 corridors. Not meaning to insult anyone and I apologize if I do but, the metromess isn't traditional Texas.

Traditional Texas has gone, by the way side. More yanks are moving in because it is better done here. Let's not let them influence our politics. It's something we'll have to get use to. By the way, how do I get away from the metro mess. Any good jobs in your neck of the woods?

Cast it out and see what happens.

The economics has trickled down to about every sector. The bright side for our area is that Mortimer (Portugese windmill generator company) is in the process of moving out here. Anything related to energy will be the growth industry anywhere even if it comes out of the ground.

Jucy's in Tyler does not have real mayo, just salad dressing.

I just discovered that the Tyler Jucy's is now carrying Hellman's real mayo in packets. This means I'm having lunch at Jucy's today! Yee HAW!

This is a MAJOR failure.

The Longview Jucy's are da bomb though. (The Longview locations carry real mayo.)

Apparently the Texas Monthly didn't go to Hurd's in Jacksboro or to the Thriftway in Graham.

San Angelo, eh? Try the original Charcoal House, incredible burgers. No seats or anything, just a small building housing the kitchen with a walk-up window, and a drive up window, and a few spots to park your car. That's it, and WOW are their burgers ever good!

Then again, living in San Angelo, you've probably already been there lol.

Seriously, letting Dallas rate burgers is akin to letting Pee Wee Herman rate NFL players.

For those of you who fish Fayette, try Orsak's Cafe in Fayetteville. Their hamburgers are awesome and their Shiner Blonde is good and cold.

There are 2 besides the original and yes they are good but, while they still have the drive-up windows they are focusing on their "dine-in" menu now at all of them. Julio's makes a pretty burger as well.

I have probably eaten at every place listed, several multiple times. Some I thought were good, and some not so much but the one omission is Woody's in Mineral Wells. It is the second best I ever tasted, but it is still miles behind Herd's in Jacksboro. I had not had one there in several years but stopped in the other day and the dang thing just melted in my mouth, I had to get another one just to be sure I wasn't dreaming.

Charlie's hamburgers off of 20 and Granbury Rd in Fort Worth. I haven't been to Juicy's, but there was a reeallly excellent place in Maydell. I don't think I ever saw the name of the shop, but it was a tin shack on the north side of 84 as you're going through town. Barbecue, general store, and gas station... and some seriously good homestyle burgers. Other than that, there's a place called Buffalo Jones south of Venus (head south on 157, then east on 875 a bit). Tell Dwayne and his wife that Brandy, Jacob, and Angela say hi smile

Cactus Jack's in Marshall was excellent, but I got the enchaladas.

I know there was a truly awe inspiring burger in Fort Davis.... danged if I can remember the name of the place though!

Herds in Jacksboro is one of the best old fashioned juicy burgers. Can't remember the little place in Graham that had about 4 booths but the burgers were also very juicy and good. Never could get a place to sit, but taking it back to the coaches office always got everyone attention.

Kinkaids in Southlake is just an overpriced burger joint. Nothing special.

+1 Charlies. Yummy greasy home fries too. No $10 burgers either, reasonable prices. food

If Charlies was the burger place that used to be on the traffic circle (and I'm sure that was it), they were pushing the $10 mark by the time that you got fries and a drink.

From what I remember, they were good, but not worth that kinda money.

The one on the traffic circle is a different Charlies. I went there a couple times and it wasn't nearly as good, the service sucked, and yes, it was more expensive.

And they didn't have homemade lemon bars.

Note, its been about a year or so since I've gone to the original Charlies. I moved to the other side of the world and don't get back down to south Fort Worth very often. I've been to Houston more often than I've been in that neck of the woods.

Have you tried the burger box on s. west blvd. down from the church? pretty good burgers there.

I was a waitress at Hole in the Wall in Dallas over 12 years ago and I still crave the burgers and cheese fries. That place was busy enough and good enough to pay my college tuition so I vote it THE BEST.

Good! I wasnt impressed with the one on the circle. Now it's a Mexican chicken joint, more like a taqueria (sp). Pretty good too.

I've had Burger Box in Kennedale on Mansfield Hwy and the one on SW Blvd. Both were so-so.

We have been on a Braums kick lately. Decent FF burger.

Well, I was going to Fred's for the first time today. Closed! d@mn, so we went to Tommy's on 7th street. I must say they aren't near as good as the one on Lackland road. The burgers were just so-so. You can't beat the original i guess.

After 40+ years I've found the ultimate burger at Dutch's on the TCU campus. After every bite of the Bacon Blue Cheese Burger I enjoyed with a cold Shiner before the TCU Baseball game last night, I found myself muttering "Oh Man" to the delight of the surrounding patrons. You will NOT be disappointed!

Anyone can say what they want to say on a deal like this, but if you don't go to Boot's Burger in Rockwall then you have no speaking lines.

Best Burger IMO is at Health Camp in Waco right on the traffic circle behind Rudy's. It's an old dive but the cheeseburgers are the best and I've ate at alot the places that have been listed on this thread. I also like Woody's out in Mineral Wells. The next time your in Waco you need to stop by Health Camp. If you can't go there R+R in Waco makes a pretty good burger too.

Kincaids and Tommys are pretty even, but I'm thinking Tommy's off of Green Oaks is my favorite.

In Brady Mack's which is a barbecue place has excellent burgers and fries. When I took my daughter there she was so engrossed in the fries she bit her finger. I told her I would never tell anyone she did that.

There is a small drive-in at Clovis Road and University in Lubbock called Tastee Burger that is very good. Worked near it for a long time and would try to limit myself to one a week just for my heart's sake.

I was working in Llano last week and kinda wondered what the Blue Duck was, will be passing through tomorrow and think I'll try one. There is another diner like place there I forget the name of but it is on 71 just south of 29 on the east side which is pretty good also. They offer a chicken fried burger which I tried and still not sure about. It was a big burger though. Their regular ones and other food were all good.

I agree! A big schooner with a Tommy's burger is a must. Apparently they forgot to file for their liquor license. The lady who always is on the register says they have filed to get it back, but it has probably been two months at this point.

Health Camp is definitly one to have , you won't soon forget. But we also have Double R and Cupps has been there since the 30's or 40's and Cobies on Dutton used to have a good one but I havent been there in a while.

Sorry guy's I would have to vote for Bubba's burger shack here in Houston is one of the best I have sunk my teeth into. They even sell their burgers with Buffalo meat. Mighty tasty.

I lived in Dallas for years and I remember Keller's, Hole in the wall, Jake's, etc. Sure do miss those places.

Happy Eating.

Health camp burgers are definately good. Some times the Chris Madrid's burgers in San Antonio hit the spot for me. Course, I grew up three blocks from it.

Mears Store, Mears, Oklahoma, between Lawton and the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge.
Real home-grown Longhorn, burgers the size of a homemade apple pie (no kidding), apple, peach or cherry cobbler with homemade ice cream.
That part of Oklahoma used to be Texas so I guess i's a fair nomination. LC

Can't believe I got way down on page 2 before someone mentioned Fred's. Funky little place near the museum district in Ft Worth. The Diablo burger is a must, and the hand cut fries are great!
Running a close second is Dutch's (also in FW, across from TCU on University)

Bacon Cheese Burger at West Chevron in Winnsboro, best around.
Big Al's in Arlington was the best, but when they moved it lost the Mystic.

OKAY, you and sanch are killing me. Where in Rockwall is Boots? I don't remember driving by it and my son is playing baseball over there this year. Inquiring minds want to know.

Weebs, you're in luck. Now, first off you can't eat at Boots. In fact, it doesn't even look like a restaurant but don't be put off by it. It's been there for 50 years and if it's looked good enough this long to get a cheeseburger from then it ought to look good enough for you. From Caddo, come in on 66. Just as you're actually coming to downtown on you're right you will see a street called Kernodle. Turn right. Go three blocks and turn right on Cornelia. Go one block and it'll be on your left at the corner of Austin and Cornelia. It's a very small building next to a house in that neighborhood. You'll some benches and chairs and a green 7-Up machine. Don't drag around and think you'll get one at 2pm either. They'll be sold out. They open and 11 and run until they sell out -usually around 130 or 200. They're closed Mondays and Sundays. Call ahead. 972.722.5802. To eat them, most people will go back exactly the way I told you to get there until you come back to 66. Go across 66 a block until it dead ends into the park. You can't eat at Boot's Burgers because a pack of pricks got together back in the early 80's or late 70's and raised hell at the city because the traffic was out of hand in their neighborhoods. That particular pack was named Dortick.

Hey trapper I've enjoyed a burger or two from from Mac's in Brady. I'd like to know where some of these places are in San Angelo, please. I will be there in a couple of days.

Thanks

That's awesome. I would never have found it. "kernodle to Cornelia?"

So you are saying they are just open for lunch? No din, din? I was hoping to grab one on the way to my son's game tomorrow evening. Maybe Saturday?

Good ol' days syndrom..

There used to be a place in Greenville, east of town in the old Ardis Heights community, called Ardis Heights Grocery. Ran by a butcher and his wife.

They would make what they called a Texas Burger..ONE POUND of fresh ground chuck on a huge bun made however you wanted it. If you ordered with bacon, she would put 5 or 6 slices on there. You could get that burger and fresh cut fries for around 7 bucks.

Sadly, the man died and his wife ran the store for a while longer before she finally gave up and went to work for the county court house.

There was another one on West Lee in Greenville called Myers market. Another butcher and his wife. His burgers weren't as big but just as good. Also, made a mean chili dog with the best red hot dogs you ever tasted. He would split them down the middle and lay them on the grill. Dress them up with home made chili. Great breakfast sandwiches too. They had some great steaks, ground beef and bacon too to buy and take home.

I miss the old butcher shops that used to be everywhere and the family owned independent grocerys.

No dinner. Yeah, if you turn right onto Kernodle then go down to Cornelia and turn right. go about a block and half or so and you'll see it on your left side. Or the North side of Cornelia.

If you go on Saturday, make for sure you're there bu 12:30.

Might just make it. His first game on Saturday is at 8 am and we will have time for lunch after that... thumb
